Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the five activities and mention several important patterns, especially table tennis’s strong rise and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, the overview is unclear and does not accurately summarise the main contrasts: film club remained broadly stable at around the mid-60s, while martial arts fluctuated around the mid-30s. Some figures are misreported: film club is described as reaching 70, although it ends at about 66, and table tennis is given as rising from 15 to 55 rather than approximately 16 to 54. Musical performances began in 2010, not 2005. The response therefore reports relevant features but only partially and with inaccuracies. Focus on the overall trends and support them with accurate comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure, with an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs, and signposts such as “To begin with” and “Furthermore” show an attempt to organise information. However, progression is not consistently clear: the overview repeats details that are later revisited, and the final paragraph moves through activities without a clear grouping or comparison. Some linking is awkward or incomplete, as in “While material art would not be played at high level,” which does not connect smoothly to the preceding sentence. Repeated openings such as “the number of candidates” also make the report feel repetitive. Group the series by trend—for example, stable/fluctuating figures versus rising/falling figures—and use concise links to show those relationships.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “participants,” “increased,” “decreased” and “started,” so the reader can generally identify the activities and trends being discussed. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. “Candidates” and “players” are used where “participants” is more appropriate, while “material art” does not correctly name “martial arts.” Expressions such as “would be played more” and “15 to 55 percent number of players” are unclear, and “percent” is not suitable for these participant counts. There are also spelling errors, including “paticipant,” “armature” and “decreaced.” Use precise trend language such as “rose from,” “remained stable” and “fell to,” and check activity names and spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the reader can usually follow the broad meaning. However, control is inconsistent, particularly in verb forms, agreement and sentence construction. For example, “the number of candidates were” has a singular subject with a plural verb, while “participants participate” repeats the verb awkwardly. The repeated use of “would” for past chart data is also inappropriate; use the past simple, such as “rose” or “declined.” Some sentences are fragments or poorly joined, including “While material art would not be played at high level” and “And the amateur dramatics, there are less number of participants.” Practise writing complete, direct sentences with accurate past-tense verbs and clear subject–verb agreement.
