The line graph provides insights into the number of participants who performed different activities at a social centre in Melbourne, Australia between 2000 and 2020.
Overall, the trend of the film club, and martial arts is similar. Whereas, the trend of the amateur dramatics is opposite of all the other activities. The trend of table tennis eventually spiked after a moderate decrease, while the trend of musical performances grew after the initial five years.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the overall contrast between the declining amateur dramatics figures and the growth in table tennis and musical performances, and you include several relevant figures, such as film club participation falling to 60 in 2010 before rising and amateur dramatics reaching about 6 by 2020. However, some key details are unclear or inaccurate: martial arts fluctuated rather than simply reaching a high in 2010 and dropping, and table tennis’s final rise to about 54 is not clearly reported. The phrase “maximum just above two-quarters” does not communicate a meaningful value or comparison. Your overview also overstates the similarity between film club and martial arts, whose patterns differ. A clearer summary of the main changes and more precise comparisons would make the coverage more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs presenting details. The information generally moves from the overall patterns to individual activities, and linking expressions such as “After this,” “However,” and “from 2000 to 2005” help show sequence and contrast. At times, though, the progression is weakened by unclear references and awkward transitions. For example, “the trend of table tennis eventually spiked after a moderate decrease” is difficult to follow, and the later phrase “maximum just above two-quarters” does not clearly connect to a specific figure. The overview also groups trends too broadly. Organise the details into clearer comparisons—for instance, rising activities versus declining or fluctuating ones—and use precise references to maintain cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for describing a line graph, including “decreased,” “increased,” “peak,” “fell dramatically,” and “grew steadily.” These choices communicate several trends, and “spiked drastically” shows an attempt to use more varied language. Some word choices and collocations are imprecise, however: “participants who performed different activities” is not quite natural, and “maximum just above two-quarters” is unclear. Repetition of “the number” and “trend” also limits flexibility. Check spelling in “futher,” and choose verbs that match the size and shape of each change rather than using “spiked” broadly. More precise expressions for fluctuations and comparisons would strengthen the description without making it sound overstated.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including contrast clauses with “Whereas” and “however,” and most of the intended meaning remains understandable. Some grammatical errors persist in agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “there was around 64 participants” should use a plural construction, while “There was around 27 students participated” combines incompatible structures; write “Around 27 students participated” or “There were around 27 participants.” The fragment “Whereas, the trend…” should be joined to a main clause, and “the number increased to 10” would be clearer with an appropriate subject and article. Capitalisation after a full stop and spacing around punctuation also need attention. Review these patterns while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
