Student answer (Band 5.5)

The provided graph depicts information about five different tasks held at social center in Melbourne located in Australia, and their participants in between 2000 and 2020. Y-axix reflects the number of participants from zero to seventy, with the interval of ten.

Overall, flim club and material arts showed about similar number of participants throught the period of time. Number of participants in musical performances and table tennis showed the upward trent, whereas amateur darmatics decreased hitting lowest amoung all by 2020.

At first glance, the figure of musical performances participants was zero in year 2005, which gradually increased to approximately 15 by year 2020. Table tennis showed slow progression from about 18 to 20 in between 2000 and 2010, and increased gradually to nearly 55, showing fastest

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the five activities and give a relevant overview: film club and martial arts remain broadly stable, table tennis and musical performances rise, and amateur dramatics declines. Some figures and trends are reported accurately, such as table tennis increasing to about 55 and musical performances reaching roughly 15–18. However, the response is incomplete: it ends mid-sentence (“showing fastest”), and it gives little detail about film club, martial arts, or the steep decline in amateur dramatics to around 6. The statement that musical performances were zero in 2005 is true, but the series also starts at zero in 2000. The response is 23 words below the required minimum, which contributes to the limited coverage. Add a complete final comparison and report the key end-point figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic, sensible sequence: an introduction, an overview, and then details about musical performances and table tennis. “Overall” and “At first glance” help signal these stages, so the reader can follow the main direction of the report. However, the progression is not completed because the final sentence stops at “showing fastest,” leaving the comparison unfinished. The detail paragraph also covers only two of the five activities, so the information is not balanced or fully organised into a clear account of the graph. To improve, use a separate paragraph for the main trends and group the stable or declining series together, then finish each sentence and use clear comparisons between the activities.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “participants,” “gradually increased,” “upward trend,” and “decreased,” which communicates the broad movements in the graph. There is also an attempt to vary wording with “slow progression” and “hitting lowest.” However, spelling errors such as “Y-axix,” “flim,” and “darmatics” are noticeable, and several word combinations are unnatural or imprecise, including “tasks held at social center” and “showed about similar number.” These errors make parts of the report less clear and limit the precision expected in describing data. Use standard activity names accurately and choose conventional graph language, such as “the figure remained stable” or “the number rose sharply.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of sentence forms, including a complex overview sentence beginning “Overall” and a comparison of table tennis across several years. The main meaning is usually recoverable, but grammatical control is uneven. Examples include the missing article in “at social center,” the awkward construction “their participants in between 2000 and 2020,” and the agreement error in “flim club and material arts showed about similar number.” The final sentence is also incomplete, ending with “showing fastest.” These issues, alongside limited development of sentence patterns, prevent consistently clear and accurate reporting. Practise complete comparative sentences, check articles and subject–verb agreement, and proofread each sentence for a clear ending.
