Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall contrast: the film club remains the largest activity, while amateur dramatics declines to the lowest level. You also report several key movements accurately, including table tennis rising sharply after 2010 and musical performances beginning at zero. However, some figures or descriptions are unclear or inaccurate. Film club falls to 60 in 2010 and then rises to about 66, not “almost 70”; amateur dramatics begins around 26, rather than clearly “more than 25,” and its final value is about 6. Calling its starting position “better” is also vague. The response covers the main series, but the overview and comparisons could be more precise, and the figures should be presented as participant numbers rather than percentages.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing the activities. This gives the reader a generally coherent route through the information, and phrases such as “Overall” and “On the other hand” help signal shifts. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The overview’s contrast between amateur dramatics having a “better number” at the beginning and the lowest number at the end is not expressed precisely, while the long final paragraph moves through three activities without clear separation. Grouping the declining series together and the rising series together would make comparisons easier to follow. Use linking expressions to show relationships between trends, rather than relying mainly on simple sequencing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “decreased,” “declined steadily,” “remained constant,” “sharply increased,” and “fluctuations.” These choices make the general direction of most series understandable. However, several word choices and collocations are imprecise or unnatural, such as “better number of people,” “started with the more than 60 percent members,” and “ended to less than 40%.” The repeated use of “people” and “participants” also limits variety, and “percent” is inappropriate because the graph gives numbers, not percentages. There are noticeable spelling errors, including “beggining,” “alomost,” and “performaces.” Aim for accurate chart language such as “stood at,” “rose to,” and “the number of participants.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses linked with “whereas,” “but,” and “after,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, some sentence structures and verb forms are inaccurate. For example, “it fall again” should use the past form “fell,” and “it ended to less than 40%” needs a different grammatical pattern, such as “ended at fewer than 40 participants.” The opening also contains a repeated article in “the the numbers,” and several sentences lack clear punctuation or have awkward clause connections. Check articles, past-tense consistency, and sentence boundaries carefully. More controlled complex sentences would help you express comparisons without sacrificing accuracy.
