Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main overall patterns: film club remains the most popular, table tennis rises sharply, and amateur dramatics declines. You also note that musical performances begin to attract participants later in the period. However, several figures are inaccurate and weaken the report’s coverage: film club is about 64 in 2000, not 70, and reaches about 66 in 2020 rather than 75; martial arts fluctuates around the mid-30s, not the values given; and musical performances start at zero, not 15 in 2000. The overview is relevant, but the account of some series is incomplete or unclear. Check the graph carefully and compare the key starting and ending figures to make the main trends more precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to descriptions of individual activities. This gives the reader a basic route through the information, and phrases such as “Overall” and “Lastly” help signal stages. However, the body paragraphs do not consistently group related trends, and some transitions are awkward or mechanical. For example, “nevertheless” is used where a straightforward contrast or sequence would be clearer, and the long section beginning “Amateur dramatics decline dramatically” shifts abruptly to table tennis. Punctuation around these transitions also makes the progression harder to follow. Grouping the rising, falling and relatively stable activities more deliberately would make the comparisons clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “increase dramatically,” “decline,” “slight dip” and “substantially improved.” These choices show an attempt to vary the language rather than simply repeat “go up” or “go down.” However, the range and control are limited by repeated or imprecise expressions, such as “participants” and “popular,” and by collocation and word-form errors: “the explanation of various activities” does not accurately describe what the graph presents, while “started to improved” is not a natural form. There are also spelling errors in key labels, including “flim,” “malbourne” and “Table tenis.” Use accurate activity names and a wider set of precise trend verbs and comparison phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including contrasts between activities, but control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement and verb forms appear in “The graph illustrate,” “the film club remain,” and “started to improved.” Several sentences also have faulty or unclear construction, such as “the most popular activity was film club attracted about 70 participants,” which needs a relative clause or a clearer sentence break. Commas and capitalisation are often inaccurate, particularly in “In 2000 …, In 2010 …” and around “martial arts,In 2000.” These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build comparisons using shorter, correctly punctuated clauses before adding more complex structures.
