Student answer (Band 6.0)
The line graph demonstrates the participant numbers involved with distinctive activities at a social centre at Melbourne city of Australia for period of 20 years starting from 2000 to 2020. The various activities given here in chart are- film club, martial arts, amateur dramatics, table tennis and musical performances.
Firstly, the film club members have been dominating the chart since 2000 with slight deviation in total number, as it has been declining from 2000 reaching 60 in 2010 but the number grew till 2020. Martial club participant numbers fluctuated in a five years interval and the trend continued till 2020 with almost equal variation in every five years. The lines for amateur dramatics and table tennis crossed their path in 2010 which means that 20 participants were there for each category, but from that point number of table tennis players suddenly started to grow and reached more than 50 in 2020. It has been a declining trend for amateur dramatics since 2005 and reached nearly only 5 in 2020.
A new trend for muscial performer has been observed here from 2005 which has steadily grown for next 15 years surpassing even the amateur dramatics performers in quantity.
In conclusion, it can be observed that film club members are staying at top in the graph since 2010 compared to other activities, wheareas musical performances maker are showing a rising trend.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main patterns: film club participation remains high, table tennis rises sharply, amateur dramatics declines, and musical performances increase. Several figures and comparisons are also accurate, including the shared figure of about 20 for table tennis and amateur dramatics in 2010. However, the overview is not fully precise: film club is highest throughout the period, not only “since 2010,” and musical performances do not surpass amateur dramatics until the later years. The description of martial arts as showing “almost equal variation” is unclear and does not report its fairly stable range of roughly 32–38. A clearer overview of the strongest contrasts, supported by a few key figures, would make the response more complete and developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a generally coherent structure, moving from an introduction to descriptions of the series and then a concluding summary. Grouping the film club and martial arts before comparing table tennis with amateur dramatics gives the reader a workable progression. However, the organisation is not always efficient: the final “In conclusion” repeats points already made, while the musical-performances trend is separated into a short paragraph without a clear link to the other rising and falling series. Some connections are also imprecise, such as “from that point,” whose reference could be clearer. Use a concise overview paragraph followed by two logically grouped detail paragraphs, and make comparisons explicit rather than relying on general transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “fluctuated,” “declining trend,” “steadily grown,” and “surpassing,” which helps describe changes over time. Meaning is generally clear, but several choices are awkward or inaccurate for this context: “participant numbers involved with distinctive activities,” “film club members have been dominating the chart,” and “musical performances maker” do not sound natural. There are also spelling errors in “muscial” and “wheareas.” Prefer precise collocations such as “the number of participants in the film club” and “participation in musical performances.” More consistent use of terms such as “rose,” “fell,” “remained stable,” and “reached” would improve clarity and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses linked with “as,” “but,” and “which means that,” and most of the trends remain understandable. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly with articles, prepositions, and sentence construction. For example, “at Melbourne city of Australia” needs a more accurate location phrase, while “for period of 20 years” is missing an article. In “the number grew till 2020,” the subject is understandable but the phrasing and tense control are less natural; “the figure then rose to 66 by 2020” would be clearer. The long sentence beginning “The lines for amateur dramatics and table tennis crossed” also carries several ideas at once. Aim for more consistently accurate sentence patterns and clearer punctuation.
