Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify several important patterns, including the sharp rise in table tennis, the steady growth in musical performances, and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, the overview is incomplete and contains a key inconsistency: it says film club and martial arts remained relatively constant, but later claims table tennis was relatively constant, despite its strong rise after 2010. The film-club figure is also overstated as “nearly 70” in 2020, when it is about 66. Some trends are described accurately, but the account gives limited coverage of martial arts and does not clearly compare the activities across the period. A more precise overview and consistent selection of the main comparisons would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs, and it generally moves from one activity to another in a sensible way. However, progression is weakened by repetition and unclear comparisons. Table tennis is discussed as both sharply increasing and “relatively constant,” while the final paragraph returns to amateur dramatics after it has already been covered. Linking phrases such as “Looking first” and “After 2005” help guide the reader, but some connections are imprecise, and “till” is repeated. Grouping the rising activities together and then contrasting them with the declining or stable series would create a clearer progression and reduce repetition.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “increased drastically,” “remained relatively constant,” “gradual increase” and “declined.” These choices communicate the main trends, and the meaning is generally clear. However, some expressions are imprecise or awkward for describing a graph: “pictorial evidence beneath,” “increased to around 20 till 2005,” and “reached approximately 55 till 2020.” There are also spelling errors, including “peiod,” “dramtics” and “particpants,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for concise, conventional chart language and check spelling carefully; for example, describe a figure as rising “to” a value or “by” an amount, rather than using “till” for both.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt some complex forms, such as the contrast beginning “While the participants of film club and martial arts…” and the clause “though the highest number…,” alongside simpler statements. However, the range is limited and several sentences are incomplete or awkwardly formed. The overview sentence beginning “While” is a fragment because it has no main clause, and “After 2005 the number grew drastically till the end of the graph (reached approximately 55…)” has an unclear relationship between its clauses. The phrase “the highest number of participants were” also has a subject–verb agreement problem. Use complete sentences, check singular and plural agreement, and vary sentence patterns while keeping each comparison grammatically clear.
