Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important patterns: film club remains the most popular activity, table tennis rises sharply, amateur dramatics declines, and musical performances increase after starting at zero. These observations are broadly consistent with the chart. However, some comparisons are unclear or inaccurate: amateur dramatics and table tennis did not begin at the same level (about 26 and 16 participants), and musical performances did not begin in 2005; participation was still zero then and began in 2010. The overview also says little about the relatively stable martial-arts figures. The response contains 139 words, so it is 11 words below the required minimum; 18 words copied from the prompt were excluded from the count. Add a clearer overview and a few accurate figures to develop the main features.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure, with an opening, an overview and separate comments on several activities. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “Additionally” and “Although” attempt to connect ideas. However, progression is not consistently clear: the overview moves from amateur dramatics and table tennis to musical performances, then film club and martial arts without a clear grouping or sequence. Some linking words are inaccurate or awkward, particularly “However” and “Although” where the relationship between ideas is not clear. Organise the body paragraphs by contrasting trends—for example, rising activities together and declining or stable ones together—and use simpler, precise transitions to make the comparisons easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “participants,” “rapid increase,” “decline,” and “constant increase,” so the reader can identify the activities and general trends. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning difficult to follow. “Five categories people had interested in” is not a natural way to describe participation, while “same position” and “middle section of the chart” are imprecise. There are also spelling and word-form errors, such as “intrested,” “Amateurs dramatic,” and “contrally.” Aim for accurate trend language and natural collocations, such as “participation in amateur dramatics fell” or “martial-arts numbers fluctuated between 30 and 40.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences and use time references, but sentence structures are often faulty, and errors sometimes make relationships between ideas hard to understand. For example, “Amateurs dramatic and Table tennis were at same position initially in the growing position” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “However given data shows constant increase had been after 2010” has problems with articles, tense and clause construction. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, with several sentence boundaries missing or unclear. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them using clauses such as “while” and “whereas.” Check articles, verb forms and punctuation, and ensure each sentence has a clear subject and main verb.
