Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the main categories and make some relevant comparisons, including film club’s high participation and table tennis’s rise from about 16 to 54. However, the overview is unclear and includes a major contradiction: table tennis is said to show an “abrupt decline in 2020,” although it rises sharply to its highest point. Film club did not remain static throughout; it dipped slightly before increasing. The claim that musical performances were the least chosen in 2005 is also misleading, since participation was zero in both 2000 and 2005, and the final sentence is incomplete, leaving that series unreported. To strengthen the response, give a clear overview of the contrasting trends and accurately summarise all five activities.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to an overview and then to details, and phrases such as “While looking at the statistics” signal a shift between topics. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the overview mixes trends with inaccurate claims, and the final paragraph combines several series without a clear order. Some linking is mechanical or confusing: “However” introduces a statement that does not logically contrast with the preceding point, while “both categories showed an inverse relation” does not clearly explain the comparison. The response also ends abruptly mid-sentence. Organise the details into clearer groups, use links that express the actual relationship between ideas, and provide a complete concluding description of the data.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “participants,” “dominant activity,” “decline,” and “positive response,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “gap years” for the five-year intervals, “least category to be opted,” and “showed an inverse relation” when describing two trends. Spelling errors—including “dicussed,” “partcipants,” and “comapred”—are noticeable, and some phrases are unnecessarily elaborate. Aim for precise, conventional language for describing graphs, such as “rose steadily,” “fell sharply,” and “remained relatively stable.” Check spelling and choose words that describe the data directly rather than relying on vague expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some complex sentences, for example the sentence beginning “Film club was dominant activity,” and use subordinate clauses to compare trends. However, control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make relationships unclear. Examples include missing articles in “was dominant activity” and “only 20 number of participants,” awkward tense and agreement in “25 individual retained their interest … which … fall,” and the incomplete final clause, “The later activity was not in initiated until 2005, sh”. Punctuation is also unreliable, with a missing space after “2020.” Use simpler, complete sentence patterns when needed, check articles and singular/plural forms, and ensure each sentence has a clear subject and correctly formed verb.
