Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall patterns: the film club remains the largest activity, table tennis rises strongly, and amateur dramatics declines. You also include relevant comparisons and several approximate figures, such as film club falling to 60 in 2010 and table tennis reaching the mid-50s by 2020. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: musical performances began in 2010, not 2005, and reached about 18 rather than 20; amateur dramatics peaked at about 28 in 2005, not 30. The film club finishes near 66, rather than around 70, and martial arts ends at roughly its starting level of 36, not 38. The main features are covered, but greater precision and fuller reporting of key changes would strengthen the summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and separate paragraphs describing the activities. Grouping film club, table tennis and musical performances before discussing martial arts and amateur dramatics gives the reader a workable route through the data. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes uneven, and several sentence openings rely on “While” or “From there,” which can make the links feel mechanical or incomplete. For example, “While, amateur dramatics declined drastically” is not smoothly connected to the preceding overview, and “In 2000, film club…” is followed by another fragment beginning “While, it gradually fell…”. Use complete sentences and clearer links to show how each comparison relates to the overall trends.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “fluctuated,” “declined drastically,” “marginally grew” and “increased,” so the main trends are generally understandable. However, some choices are imprecise or unnatural for describing a graph: “contestants” and “members” are less suitable than “participants,” while “most famous activity” describes popularity or recognition rather than the number taking part. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “acitivty,” “acvtivites” and “prefered,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for consistent, precise terms and check spelling carefully. A wider set of natural trend expressions would also help you avoid repeating “increased” and “fell.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex forms, including time clauses and contrasts, and the reader can usually follow the intended meaning. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in sentence boundaries and clause construction. For instance, “While, amateur dramatics declined drastically” is an incomplete clause, and “From there it dramatically increased in 10 years” would be clearer with a more accurate time expression and sentence structure. The opening phrase “in between 2000 to 2020” also combines prepositions incorrectly. There are some errors with articles and verb forms, as in “film club has been the most…” when describing a completed period, and punctuation around introductory phrases is inconsistent. Build complete sentences and review tense and preposition patterns.
