Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response identifies the chart’s subject and mentions several relevant activities, including the rise in table tennis and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, it gives only a minimal account of the data and does not provide a clear, accurate overview of the main patterns across the period. The statement that musical performances began in 2005 is incorrect: participation was still zero then and first appeared in 2010. The film club remained the most popular activity, while table tennis rose sharply, but these important comparisons are not explained. The response is also below the required 150 words; 20 words copied from the prompt were excluded from the count. Add key figures and comparisons to develop the summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic sequence: an opening sentence identifies the graph, followed by a brief description of its axes and then some overall comments. This gives the reader a starting point, but the response does not develop into a clearly organised summary of the five activities. The overview mixes trends together, and the final sentence shifts to musical performances without a clear link to the preceding points. There are no paragraphs to distinguish the overview from supporting details, and linking expressions are very limited. Organise the response into an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and one or two detail paragraphs grouped by similar patterns. Use clear references such as “this figure” or “by contrast” to connect comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary is sufficient to identify the chart’s topic and activities, with relevant terms such as “participants,” “decrease,” and “gradually.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are unnatural, including “participants for joining different activities,” “acquire high number,” and “participates in musical performances.” Spelling errors such as “horizotal” and “paticipation” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the general subject, but they make the description less precise and fluent. Use standard chart language, for example “the number of people taking part,” “had the highest participation,” and “participation rose,” and check spelling before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response uses mostly simple sentence patterns, with a few attempts to combine ideas using “whereas” and “however.” Grammatical errors are frequent, though the general meaning is usually recoverable. For example, “The vertical lines … demonstrates” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “there is a gradually increase” uses the wrong article and word form. In “participants dramatically decrease in 2020,” the verb form and tense do not fit the description of past data. The sentence about musical performances also shifts awkwardly between “would” and “participates.” Practise accurate past-tense reporting and agreement, and build a wider range of controlled sentences, such as “While film-club numbers remained high, table-tennis participation rose substantially.”
