The line graph illustrates details on the number of participating individuals at a particular social center in Melbourne, Australia for various activities between the year 2000 to 2020.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall patterns: the film club remains the largest activity, amateur dramatics declines, and table tennis grows substantially. Several figures are also broadly accurate, including film-club participation at just over 60 and amateur dramatics falling to about one-fifth of its initial level. However, some key details are unclear or inaccurate. Table tennis did not rise from 2010 to 2020 from around 20 to just over 50 as phrased; it increased from about 16 in 2000 to 20 in 2005 and 2010, then climbed sharply to 54. Musical performances began in 2010, not 2005, and martial arts fluctuated around the mid-30s rather than increasing significantly overall. More precise reporting of these trends would make the summary more complete and reliable.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing the activities. Sequencing phrases such as “At a glance,” “To begin with,” and “Furthermore” help signal the stages of the report. However, the grouping of details is not always easy to follow. The table-tennis sentence combines several years in a way that obscures the actual progression, while the musical-performances detail is inserted without a clear comparison. The overview also groups three activities as having significant additions, although amateur dramatics falls and martial arts is broadly stable. Use clearer topic sentences and organise the series by their main trends—for example, rising activities together and declining or stable ones together. This would strengthen progression and make the comparisons more coherent.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “declined steadily,” “fluctuations,” “plateaued,” and “dramatic change.” These choices help describe movement and comparison, though some wording is imprecise or unnatural. “Experienced the addition of participants significantly” is an awkward way to describe growth, and “participating individuals” is less direct than the usual chart-reporting phrase. There are also spelling errors in “table tenis” and “flactuations,” and “musical performance” should match the activity label in the plural. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and consistent labels. For example, describe a series as “rose sharply” or “increased substantially,” and use “participant numbers” rather than repeatedly referring to “participants” as if they themselves were changing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including contrast clauses with “however” and a relative clause in the opening. Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. In the introduction, “between the year 2000 to 2020” mixes two time constructions; use “between 2000 and 2020.” In “the number of participants were 1/5th,” the singular subject “number” requires “was,” and the fraction would be clearer as “one-fifth.” The sentence beginning “To begin with” also has an unclear structure around “it rose from around 20,” because the starting point and year are not expressed cleanly. Check subject–verb agreement and make time comparisons grammatically parallel. More consistently controlled complex sentences would improve accuracy.
