Student answer (Band 5.0)
The graph provides information of the different activities such as film club, martial arts, amateur dramatics, table tennis and musical performances) for the the number of the participants at one social centre in Melbourne, Australia for the time period between 2000 to 2020.
Overall, it is evident in the graph that the range of participants is higher (around 65) in film club activity where the most lowest (around 5) participants involve in amateur dramatics activity in 2020.
The activity of table tennis was less participant in 2000 which is gradually higher in 2020. On the other hand, in 2005, the number of participants for musical performance was drastically less, which is later gradually increased in 2020, approximately 15 participants. Furthermore, enagement of the participants in martial arts are equavalent in 2020, there is not significant change.
So, the increased participants in film club is higher than the participants who involved in amateur dramatics.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the five activities and give a broad overview by noting that film club has the most participants and amateur dramatics the fewest by 2020. However, the response only partially reports the graph’s main features: it omits the substantial rise in table tennis from about 16 to 54, and does not clearly describe film club’s relatively stable figures or amateur dramatics’ decline. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: musical performances began at zero in 2000 and 2005, rather than being described only as low in 2005, and martial arts fluctuated rather than remaining simply “equivalent.” The response is also 144 words, six below the required minimum. Add a fuller overview and accurate comparisons across the period.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to an overview and then to selected details. Linking phrases such as “Overall,” “On the other hand,” and “Furthermore” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, there is no clear progression through the main trends, and the final “So” sentence repeats the comparison already made in the overview rather than adding a useful conclusion. Some connections are difficult to follow, particularly the sentence about musical performances and the statement that martial arts participants are “equavalent.” Organise the body around contrasting trends—for example, rising table tennis and falling amateur dramatics—then use the remaining sentences for the steadier series. This would make the information easier to follow and reduce repetition.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “participants,” “activity,” “increased,” and “significant change,” so the reader can generally identify the subject of the report. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning unclear. For example, “the range of participants is higher” does not naturally express that film club has the largest number, while “was less participant” and “engagement … are equivalent” are not appropriate ways to describe the figures. There are also spelling errors, including “enagement” and “equavalent,” and repetition of “participants.” Use precise reporting language such as “number,” “rose,” “fell,” “remained stable,” and “fluctuated,” and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast introduced by “On the other hand” and a relative clause in “which is later gradually increased.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and prepositions frequently affect clarity. The opening has duplicated wording (“for the the number”) and an unmatched closing bracket; “between 2000 to 2020” also uses the wrong preposition pattern. In “the number … was … increased,” the verb construction is faulty, and “martial arts are” does not agree with the singular idea of the number of participants. Aim for shorter, complete sentences with accurate past-tense verbs, such as “Table tennis rose from 16 participants in 2000 to 54 in 2020.”
