Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main overall contrast: film club remains the largest activity, table tennis rises strongly, and amateur dramatics declines. However, several details are inaccurate or unclear. The graph shows film-club participation falling from about 64 in 2000 to 60 in 2010, then rising to 66 in 2020; your account begins with 2005 and gives figures that do not consistently match the plotted years. Table tennis rises from 16 to 54, rather than merely “almost reach[ing]” film club, and musical performances begin in 2010, not 2005. The overview also incorrectly says martial arts followed a downward trend overall; it fluctuates around the mid-30s and ends near its starting level. Select key figures accurately and distinguish overall trends from fluctuations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two detail paragraphs. This gives the reader a coherent overall arrangement, and contrasts such as “by contrast” help signal a change of focus. However, the progression within the detail paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow. The first paragraph combines several activities and years without clearly separating their trends, while the final paragraph gives little detail about musical performances. Some linking is also awkward or unclear, as in “Although the Musical performances started in 2005 but climbed up fastly.” Organise the body by related trends, and use clear time references and comparisons so each sentence develops one point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “participants,” “declined,” “increased,” and “sharpest,” and the meaning is generally recoverable. However, the range and control are limited by repeated or imprecise expressions such as “number of participants,” “stood,” and “climbed.” Several word forms, spellings, and collocations are inaccurate: “dramatices,” “experinenced,” “sharpest climed,” “fastly,” and “gain the sharpest.” These errors make parts of the description less natural and occasionally obscure the intended trend. Aim for precise graph language, such as “the figure rose,” “participation fluctuated,” or “recorded the steepest increase,” and check spelling and word forms before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including an overview with “while” and a contrast introduced by “by contrast.” However, grammatical errors are frequent, and some sentence structures are difficult to interpret. For example, “The line graph compare” has subject–verb disagreement, while “the number of participating” uses an incorrect noun form. The sentence beginning “In 2005” contains a faulty comparison and runs several clauses together; “Although … but” also uses incompatible linking structures. Articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries need attention. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences first, then combine ideas with one accurate connector. Check that each sentence has a clear subject and verb and that the tense remains consistent when describing the graph.
