Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important patterns: the film club remains the largest activity, table tennis rises sharply, and amateur dramatics declines. The overview also notes that martial arts is broadly stable. However, some key details are inaccurate or unclear. Amateur dramatics falls to about 6 participants, not 2, and musical performances begin in 2000 and 2005 at zero; the chart does not show musical chairs being introduced in 2005. The claim that musical performances reach almost 20 is broadly reasonable, but the description of them as the “2 last highest” is confusing. To make the report more complete and precise, compare the series using the chart’s actual values and avoid adding explanations that the graph does not provide.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to paragraphs describing the main trends. This helps the reader follow the broad comparison, and linking words such as “Overall,” “However,” and “In addition” signal relationships between ideas. Some connections are less clear or feel mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “However” and the transition from table tennis to amateur dramatics and musical performances. The overview also combines several trends in a way that makes the ranking difficult to follow. Grouping the rising activities together and the declining or stable ones together would create a clearer progression. Use more precise references when comparing rankings so that phrases such as “2 last highest” do not interrupt the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of vocabulary for describing trends, including “declined,” “rose,” “surpassed,” and “stable,” which is appropriate for this task. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, sometimes making the intended meaning difficult to understand. Examples include “amount of participants,” “highest member obtainer,” “substantial pump,” and “remain unbreakable.” There are also spelling and word-form problems, such as “malbourne,” “Altough,” and “intial.” Use standard chart language and check spelling carefully; precise terms such as “number of participants,” “peaked,” “increased sharply,” and “remained steady” would make the comparisons clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use both simple statements and some longer sentences with contrast and time clauses, for example, “Although table tennis was the second lowest … but from 2010…” This shows an attempt to vary sentence structure, but complex sentences are often not controlled accurately. There are recurring problems with verb forms and agreement: “martial art remain stable,” “it again surge,” and “remain” should be adjusted to match the past-time reporting and singular subjects. Articles and plural forms are also inconsistent, as in “the highest” and “there were no demand.” Some sentences combine contrasting conjunctions unnecessarily, as in “Although … but.” Focus on accurate past-tense forms and build longer comparisons with one clear clause structure at a time.
