Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the five activities and include several starting and ending figures that are close to the chart, such as film club at about 63 in 2000 and 65 in 2020, and table tennis at roughly 15 and 52. You also notice the sharp rise in table tennis and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, the overview is unclear and does not accurately summarise the main patterns: film club stays broadly stable at the highest level, martial arts fluctuates around the mid-30s, and musical performances rise from zero. The claim that several activities decrease and then increase is too vague, and the changes between years are not reported clearly. Select the main trends and compare them directly, using accurate figures to support them.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic sequence, moving from an introduction and initial figures to later trends and the 2020 endpoint. Connectors such as “However” and “Moving on” show an attempt to guide the reader. Nevertheless, the progression is difficult to follow because several ideas are combined in unclear sentences, for example, “There are several activity gradually decreases up to 2010 and increasing order on the years.” The overview is not separated clearly from the detailed reporting, and references such as “those activity” do not make it clear which series you mean. Organise the response into a concise overview followed by paragraphs grouping related trends, and use clear references to each activity.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “participants,” “gradually,” “decreases,” and “increase,” and you attempt to describe comparisons and trends. However, the range is limited and several word choices or combinations make the meaning hard to understand, such as “increasing order on the years,” “highest numbers of people participants activities,” and “cross” when reporting a figure. There are also frequent spelling errors in key terms, including “Flim,” “Masrtial,” and “rappidly,” which reduce clarity. Learn a small set of accurate trend phrases and use them consistently, for example, “remained stable,” “fluctuated,” “rose sharply,” and “fell steadily.” Check spelling of activity names and avoid unnecessary repetition of “people” and “participants.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, but control of sentence structure is weak, and errors frequently make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “The line graph illustrate information” has subject–verb disagreement, while “In 2000, all participants starting the number are Flim club highest is 63” does not form a clear grammatical sentence. Verb forms and articles are also often missing or incorrect, as in “those activity are rappidly increase.” Use straightforward, complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, such as “Film club had the highest participation in 2000.” Then practise past-tense reporting and agreement, and check each sentence for a complete clause before adding more detail.
