Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall patterns: the film club remains the largest activity, table tennis rises sharply, and amateur dramatics declines. Most figures and trends are broadly consistent with the graph, including the film-club dip around 2010 and the fall in amateur dramatics to about six by 2020. However, the overview is not fully precise: martial arts fluctuates around the mid-30s rather than showing a particularly notable change, and table tennis only becomes the largest activity by 2020, not necessarily the people’s favourite throughout the period. Some details are also incomplete, especially the musical performances series, which begins in 2010 and rises to about 18. A more selective, accurate overview and clearer comparisons between series would strengthen the report.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear four-paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to two detail paragraphs. The sequence is generally easy to follow, and markers such as “Overall,” “Firstly,” and “Secondly” help signal the stages of the report. However, the organisation is somewhat mechanical, and some links between ideas are awkward: “Moreover” and “Furthermore” introduce details without making the comparison especially clear. The overview also combines several trends in one sentence, making the relationships between them less precise. Grouping activities by contrasting patterns—for example, the stable film club and fluctuating martial arts against the rising table tennis—would create stronger progression. Use cohesive devices to show comparisons and changes, rather than relying mainly on ordinal transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “participants,” “slight dip,” “gradually dropped,” and “increase,” and the meaning is generally understandable. There are also attempts at more vivid language, such as “sky rocketed,” but this is too informal for an academic report and would be better expressed as “rose sharply.” Several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “the major participants,” “a participants down trend,” and “participation count.” “Flim” is also a spelling error, and “favourite activity” makes an unsupported interpretation of the figures. Aim for precise, neutral language such as “had the highest number of participants” and “declined steadily.” This would make the vocabulary more controlled and appropriate to describing data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the main trends can usually be understood. However, some grammatical errors recur and reduce accuracy. For example, “the amateur dramatics seen a slight increase” needs a finite verb (“amateur dramatics saw”), while “it shown a gradual increase” should be “it showed.” The sentence “the Musical performances not have any participants” also needs an auxiliary and correct tense, such as “Musical performances had no participants until 2005.” There are agreement and article problems in “there is a participants down trend,” as well as awkward sentence construction in the overview. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and complete clause structures, while retaining a mix of simple and complex sentences.
