Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the five activities and the period, and you attempt an overview by noting that table tennis rose while amateur dramatics declined. However, the overview is not accurate: film club, not table tennis, had the highest participation for most of the period and remained highest in 2020; amateur dramatics was not the least popular throughout, since musical performances began at zero. Several figures are also misread or expressed as percentages: table tennis rose from about 16 to 54 participants, not 10.5% to 15.5%, and musical performances reached about 18, rather than 10.5. The response therefore covers some key trends but omits reliable comparisons and contains substantial inaccuracies. Select the main changes and report participant numbers consistently.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic structure, with an introduction, an overview and a paragraph of details, so the reader can recognise an attempt to organise the information. However, progression within the details is weak: the account moves from table tennis to musical performances, amateur dramatics, martial arts and film club without a clear grouping or comparison. Linking words such as “similarly,” “while” and “meanwhile” are repeated or do not show the relationship between the data accurately. The overview also runs into a fragment beginning “while the least common activity…”. Group the rising, falling and relatively stable series, and use complete sentences with clear references to the activities. This would make the organisation easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “participants,” “fluctuated,” “significantly” and “stable,” and the activity names help identify the data. However, the range is limited and several choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the trends difficult to interpret. For example, “providing information about the numbers” is awkward, “bottom out” is not suitable for describing a series that rises, and “consistent participants” does not clearly mean that the figure stayed similar. Repeated use of “participants” and “throughout the period” also limits variety. Spelling errors such as “intrested,” “flutuated” and “remaine” further weaken control. Use precise trend language such as “rose,” “declined,” “remained stable” and “reached,” alongside accurate units.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a comparison introduced by “as compared with” and clauses beginning with “while.” However, grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. The opening sentence is incomplete in structure (“illustrates providing information”), and the overview contains sentence fragments and faulty capitalisation after full stops. Verb forms are often incorrect, as in “participants were increased” and “amateur dramatics were fall”; the latter should use a suitable past-tense verb. There are also problems with articles, agreement and sentence boundaries. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use the past simple consistently to describe changes over the period.
