Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response identifies some relevant features, including film club as the most popular activity at both endpoints, musical performances starting at zero, and amateur dramatics being lowest in 2020. However, it mainly compares 2000 with 2020 and omits the important changes between them, especially table tennis’s sharp rise and amateur dramatics’ steady decline. The statement that film club was “at stable position” is too general, and the overview largely repeats the introduction rather than summarising the main trends. The response is also 11 words below the required minimum. To develop the report, include the key movements across the period and support them with selected figures, while keeping the overview focused on the overall patterns.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic structure, moving from an introduction to details about the two endpoint years and then an overall statement. This gives the reader some organisation, and linking expressions such as “However,” “Additionally,” and “On the other hand” show an attempt to connect points. However, the progression is limited because the account jumps from 2000 directly to 2020, leaving the intervening years unexplained. The final overview repeats information already given rather than drawing the main trends together. Some connectors, including “To dive into specific,” sound awkward and do not clearly signal the relationship between ideas. Organise the body around the activities’ changes over time and use transitions that accurately express comparison or contrast.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the general subject, with relevant terms such as “participants,” “popular,” “least,” and “favoured.” There is also some variation in how participation is described. However, several phrases are unnatural or imprecise, which limits clarity: “the least participating activity,” “was not existing,” and “at stable position” do not express the intended comparisons naturally. “During these period” also shows weak control of common phrasing. Use standard chart-reporting collocations and precise trend verbs, such as “had the fewest participants,” “was not offered,” and “remained relatively stable.” This would make the description more concise and accurate without requiring unusually advanced vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response uses mostly simple sentence patterns and some contrastive structures, so the main points are generally understandable. However, errors occur frequently in verb forms, articles, and prepositions. For example, “65 participants were participated” uses an incorrect passive construction; write “about 65 people participated.” “Film club was at stable position” needs an article and a more suitable grammatical pattern, while “in between 2000 to 2020” combines prepositions incorrectly. The phrase “during these period” also has a number-agreement error. These recurring problems make the writing less controlled, although they do not prevent the reader from understanding the basic message. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and vary sentence structures only after securing these basic patterns.
