Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify several important features: film club remains the largest activity, table tennis rises markedly, and amateur dramatics declines. The figures you give for these trends are broadly consistent with the chart, and you also note that musical performances begin at zero and increase. However, the overview is not fully accurate: musical performances are the lowest only at the start; by 2020 amateur dramatics is lowest. The claim that martial arts “remain stable” also misses its fluctuations between roughly 32 and 38 participants. Some comparisons are therefore less fully reported than the main trends. For a stronger response, describe the changing rank of the smallest activity and summarise the fluctuations in martial arts more precisely, using participant numbers rather than percentages.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an opening, an overview, and two paragraphs presenting details. Sequencing expressions such as “Firstly” and “secondly” help signal the move between trends, and the reader can generally follow the comparisons. However, the organisation is somewhat mechanical, and the second detail paragraph combines several separate series in a long chain of sentences. Some links are unclear, particularly “the number of people that stayed constantly is to see film club,” which makes the relationship between the idea and the data difficult to follow. Grouping the activities by trend—for example, rising, falling, and fluctuating—would create clearer progression. Use linking phrases to show comparisons rather than relying mainly on numbered transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “participants,” “increased rapidly,” “sharply decreased,” and “stable,” so the main trends are usually identifiable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which makes parts of the report awkward. For example, “people use social media for film club” misrepresents the activities, while “the mostly number” and “information of people use” are not natural expressions. There are also spelling errors such as “Melbourn,” “amoung,” and “stayed constantly.” Aim for precise, neutral language such as “the number of participants in the film club” and “remained relatively stable.” Avoid describing the figures as percentages when the chart shows participant numbers.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses with “which” and time phrases such as “between 20 years.” The overall meaning is often recoverable, but some grammatical errors make sentences awkward or unclear. For instance, “the number of people that stayed constantly is to see film club” has an incorrect clause structure, and “which fallen from 25% to 5%” is missing the auxiliary verb “has.” There are also problems with articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, as in “in 2005 there are no one.” Use past-tense forms consistently when describing the historical data, and check that each sentence has a clear subject and verb. More accurate complex sentences would improve clarity.
