Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main patterns: film club remains the most popular, table tennis rises substantially, amateur dramatics declines, and martial arts fluctuates. The overview also notes musical performances’ late start, and most reported figures broadly match the graph. However, some details are unclear or imprecise: film-club figures are participants, not percentages, and amateur dramatics falls to about 20 in 2010 before declining further, rather than reaching a “small minority” at that point. The description of table tennis would be stronger with its intermediate values or clearer stages. This covers the task and selects relevant features, but some comparisons are less fully developed; more precise reporting and a clearer account of the key changes would strengthen it.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing the series. The progression from the broad trends to individual activities is generally easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Moreover,” and “Furthermore” help signal relationships. However, some sentences combine several trends in a way that makes the comparisons difficult to track, particularly the long sentence beginning “Moreover, above one quarter…” and moving from amateur dramatics to table tennis. The repeated use of “whereas” and “in addition” can also feel mechanical. Separate the series into shorter, more focused comparisons and use clearer references to years and activities to make the progression more controlled.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “fluctuated,” “significantly increased,” “declined,” and “reached,” which helps describe trends. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “participants who enroll,” “reached at,” “shows declined,” and “a small minority.” The response also uses percentages for participant counts, which makes the description less precise. There are spelling errors in “Malbourne,” “partipants,” and “perfromances,” and some phrases are repetitive, including “approximately” and “in year.” Aim for accurate collocations and consistent terminology: describe numbers of participants, and use verbs such as “stood at,” “rose to,” and “fell to.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses linked with “whereas,” “while,” and “after that,” and the overall meaning is usually understandable. However, some grammatical errors recur. For example, “the highest number of participants in film club activity” lacks a complete verb, while “Martial arts shows fluctuations” and “Amateur dramatics shows declined” have problems with verb form or tense. Articles and sentence structure are also sometimes inaccurate, as in “among the all categories” and “less than a fifth number of participants join table tennis.” These errors make some sentences awkward and obscure relationships between trends. Use complete clauses, maintain past tense for the historical data, and check subject–verb agreement and article use.
