Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the chart’s subject and include several relevant figures, such as film club at about 65 and musical performances starting at zero. However, the response only partially reports the main features, and some statements misrepresent the data. The overview says the “remaining other activities constantly increased,” although amateur dramatics fell substantially, while table tennis—not all other activities—rose sharply. The account also says film club reached around 69, whereas the chart shows about 66, and the description of amateur dramatics in 2010 is confused. To strengthen the report, give a clear overview of the contrasting trends, then select accurate comparisons: film club remained highest, table tennis climbed markedly, and amateur dramatics declined. Ensure each figure is linked to the correct year and activity.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs, and it uses basic linking expressions such as “Overall,” “In addition,” and “However.” These features provide some organisation. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the account moves between years and activities without a consistent structure. For example, the 2010 discussion appears in both body sections, and the sentence about amateur dramatics says it increased in 2010 before decreasing “in 2010” again. Some connectors also introduce unclear relationships, as in “Whereas” after a full sentence. Organise the details either by activity or by time period, avoid repeating years, and use linking words only when the relationship between the ideas is clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “participants,” “accounted for,” “decreased,” and “dramatically,” and you attempt to describe change rather than simply list figures. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make parts of the report difficult to understand, including “cantre,” “Melbroune,” “flim,” and “Muscial.” Some expressions are also unnatural, such as “followed fluctuate trends,” “number of people,” and “has constanted.” Choose precise trend language and check spelling carefully. For example, “fluctuated” is the correct verb for martial arts, while “remained stable” or “rose steadily” would describe a series more naturally. Accurate, varied vocabulary would make the comparisons clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “While” and “Whereas,” and the reader can understand some basic comparisons. However, complex constructions are often incomplete or faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make several sentences hard to interpret. Examples include “While martial arts followed fluctuate trends and remaning other activities constantly increased,” which lacks a clear main-clause structure, and “In 2010, Flim club recorded below 60 number of people.” Verb forms and agreement are also inconsistent, as in “performances has increased” and “number participants has rose.” Practise complete sentence patterns and consistent past-tense reporting: for example, “The number of participants in musical performances increased gradually after 2010.”
