Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response identifies the chart’s subject and includes an overview, but the overview is substantially inaccurate: it says all activities rose, whereas amateur dramatics fell markedly and martial arts fluctuated around a similar level. It also misidentifies musical performances as the lowest activity overall, although this is true only at the beginning; by 2020 amateur dramatics was lowest. Several key trends are confused or reversed. For example, table tennis rose sharply to about 54 participants, but the response says it decreased to 5%; amateur dramatics fell to about 6%, not 19%; and film-club participation stayed broadly stable near 60–66, rather than being described as unchanged. Select the main trends accurately and check each series against the graph before reporting figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable introduction, overview and two body paragraphs, and it attempts to group activities using phrases such as “To begin with” and “Following that.” However, the progression within the body paragraphs is difficult to follow because the descriptions jump between activities and some transitions do not clarify the relationship between points. “After that” introduces a table-tennis claim without a clear link to the preceding amateur-dramatics description, while “followed the same trend” is unclear about which trend is meant. The paragraphing provides some organisation, but the sequence would be clearer if each paragraph covered a coherent group of lines and used precise references to the activity being discussed.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “line graph,” “participants,” “decline” and “maintained,” and it attempts to describe change with terms such as “rose” and “steadily.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the intended trend hard to understand. Examples include “the highest choosen activity,” “had ossicilate,” and “take participate”; spelling errors such as “muscial,” “paticipants” and “amaterur” also reduce clarity. Use standard chart language consistently, and distinguish between a rise, a fall and fluctuation. More accurate verbs and collocations would make the descriptions more precise and easier to read.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
There is an attempt to use both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “while” and “Meanwhile.” However, grammatical errors are frequent, and some sentences are difficult to interpret. For example, “all the categories saw the risen trend” has an incorrect verb construction, and “Film club and muscial performances was” has a subject–verb agreement problem. In “it steadily increase at 52%,” the verb form is incorrect, while “in table tennis 18% of people take participate” has faulty sentence structure and tense. Articles, prepositions and sentence boundaries also need attention. Practise forming clear past-tense comparisons, checking agreement, and proofreading each sentence for a complete and accurate structure.
