Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main series and make some relevant comparisons, including the film club’s leading position, table tennis’s rise, and amateur dramatics’ decline. However, coverage is partial and several descriptions are unclear or inaccurate. Amateur dramatics was not initially “quite in demand” in a way that distinguishes it from the other activities; it rose slightly to 28 in 2005 before falling to 6. The film club remained broadly stable, while martial arts fluctuated around the mid-30s. Your overview mentions these patterns but does not clearly summarise the major changes across the period. Also, the figures are participants, not percentages. Select the most important trends and support them with accurate approximate values.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable sequence: an introduction, an overview, and descriptions of individual activities. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression is limited because the details are not grouped or developed consistently, and several points are repeated, such as martial arts fluctuating. Linking is sometimes awkward: “While the number of participants by table tennis increased.overall” combines ideas without a clear sentence boundary, and “whereas” begins a fragment-like continuation near the end. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and grouped details, then compare related trends in a logical order. Clearer sentence boundaries and more precise referencing would make the relationships between the activities easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “participants,” “fluctuated,” “increased,” and “gradually,” so the reader can identify the general trends you intend to describe. However, the range is limited and some word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “least entertainment activity,” “number of participants by table tennis,” and “no one have interest.” Spelling errors, including “catagories,” “campare,” “deamatically,” and “choosen,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for standard chart language such as “the number of participants in table tennis” and “musical performances attracted no participants.” More precise verbs and nouns would help you report changes without relying on repeated general terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with contrast, for example, “whereas Amateur dramatics…” and “after 2005…”. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to read. Examples include “it becames least entertainment activity,” “no one have interest,” and “it showes some growth,” where verb forms and agreement are incorrect. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also unreliable, as in “increased.overall,” while capitalisation after full stops is inconsistent. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build complete sentences around each comparison. For example: “Musical performances attracted no participants in 2000 and 2005, before rising to 18 by 2020.”
