Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several important patterns, including the decline in amateur dramatics and the relative stability of martial arts, and you attempt an overall summary. However, the overview is partly inaccurate: film club remained the largest activity, but musical performances did not have the fewest participants throughout the period, since amateur dramatics fell to about 6 by 2020. The account of table tennis is also a major omission: it rose sharply from around 16 to 54, rather than being described in the body. Some figures are misreported, especially martial arts, which stayed around 32–38 rather than rising to 60, and film club, which ended near 66 rather than 70. Select the main trends accurately and support them with key comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable introduction, overview and body, and contrast markers such as “By contrast” and “Conversely” show an attempt to connect comparisons. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the body does not group the activities clearly and returns to martial arts after discussing it earlier. Table tennis, one of the most important trends, is not developed at all. Some linking expressions are inaccurate or awkward, including “Likewise” before a contrasting point and “Although” used as a sentence opener without a main clause. Organise the details into clear groups—for example, rising activities and declining or fluctuating ones—and use transitions that accurately express the relationship between ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-appropriate vocabulary, including “fluctuated,” “decline,” “participants” and “approximately,” which helps describe trends. There is also some variety in how changes are expressed. However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural combinations are noticeable, such as “Mebbourne,” “performaces,” “amateyr,” “experienced the most popular activity” and “fewest participant.” These sometimes make the intended meaning less clear. Several descriptions are also too general, such as “rose sharply,” without accurately identifying the activity or its endpoint. Check spelling carefully and use precise collocations for chart descriptions, such as “was the most popular activity” and “the number of participants rose to around…”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “whereas” and a time clause beginning “before declining.” However, errors are frequent, and some sentence structures are faulty enough to interrupt clarity. Examples include “Film club experienced the most popular activity,” “the figure of film club was remained,” and “Although, the figure…” The final example is a dependent clause without a complete main clause. There are also problems with articles, plurals and agreement, as in “70 member” and “fewest participant.” Practise forming complete sentences and checking verb patterns: use “Film club was the most popular activity,” and “the figure remained…” rather than combining “was” with “remained.”
