Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify several important overall features: the film club was the most popular activity, table tennis grew substantially, and amateur dramatics declined. However, the response reports almost no supporting figures or detailed comparisons, so the main trends are asserted rather than demonstrated. Some details are also inaccurate: film-club participation did not remain the same, but dipped slightly before rising; amateur dramatics declined rather than increased; and martial arts fluctuated rather than simply being described as a line that “is fluctuated.” The opening also misstates the location as “different cities” and “Melbourne and Australia.” The response is 50 words below the required minimum, which further limits its coverage. Include key start and end figures and accurately describe each series’ direction.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic structure, moving from an introduction to an overview and then a further description. The overview uses “In contrast” effectively to distinguish the decline in amateur dramatics from the growth in table tennis. However, the final paragraph does not develop the information in a clear sequence: it lists several lines together without figures or comparisons, and the repeated phrase “the line graph” makes the progression feel mechanical. The opening sentence is also confusing, which weakens the reader’s understanding of the subject. Organise the details into logical groups—for example, activities that remained high or fluctuated, followed by those that rose or fell—and use clear links between these points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some suitable task vocabulary, including “participants,” “most popular,” “significant growth,” and “declined considerably,” which helps communicate the main trends. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or awkward. “By different cities” does not describe the graph, which covers activities at one centre, while “film club line” and “lines are increase” are not natural ways to describe data. The spelling “diffrent” is also noticeable. Aim for precise trend language and collocations, such as “the number of participants in the film club” and “participation in table tennis rose.” This would make the report clearer and more appropriate to an academic summary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a complex opening with “while,” and the overview conveys relationships between trends, but most sentences rely on simple structures and several grammatical errors recur. In “After analysis the line graph,” a preposition or possessive construction is missing; “it can be seen clearly that an overall” combines incompatible phrasing; and “martial arts line is fluctuated” uses an incorrect verb form. The final sentence also has faulty agreement and verb forms in “Amateur dramatics and table tennis lines are increase.” These errors sometimes make the intended trend difficult to follow. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions and subject–verb agreement, and use a few controlled complex sentences to compare activities.
