Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the main broad patterns: table tennis rises, amateur dramatics declines, and film club remains the largest activity. However, the report is under the required 150 words (133 words), and several details are inaccurate or unclear. Table tennis rises from about 16 in 2000 to 54 in 2020, not from 18 to 58 between 2010 and 2020. Amateur dramatics falls from about 26 to 6 across the full period, rather than declining from 25 in 2005. Musical performances rise from zero to around 18, not merely between 2005 and 2010 before remaining stable. To strengthen the response, cover the full time span accurately and compare the key changes with clearer supporting figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic structure, beginning with an introduction, followed by an overview and some details. This helps the reader recognise the topic and the main trends. However, the progression is limited: the final sentence, “only two social deciled significantly,” is unclear and does not provide a reliable summary of the comparisons. Some linking words, such as “although” and “while,” connect ideas awkwardly, and the details are not grouped consistently by trend or activity. Use separate, purposeful paragraphs for the overview and supporting comparisons, and organise the data so each sentence develops one clear point. Check that pronouns and linking expressions make the relationships between activities explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “participants,” “declined substantially,” “remained stable,” and “increased,” which communicates the general direction of change. There is also some repetition of basic trend language, and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, such as “figures of participants,” “social deciled,” and “musical performance” when referring to the chart category. Spelling errors including “remianed” and “particiapants” are noticeable and reduce precision. Aim to use accurate collocations and vary trend descriptions without forcing complex wording. For example, describe a series as “the number of participants” and use “fell steadily” or “rose sharply” where the data supports that description.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “although,” but control is inconsistent and errors occur frequently. For example, “Film club maintain the top position” needs a past-tense verb, while “musical performance slightly increase” also needs past tense and agreement. The sentence beginning “Overall” shifts between past and present forms (“rose” and “has been”), and “remained same” is missing an article. Punctuation and spacing are also uneven, particularly around sentence boundaries. These errors sometimes make the intended comparisons difficult to follow. Practise writing accurate past-tense sentences about the whole period, then combine them with a small number of correctly formed contrast clauses.
