Student answer (Band 6.0)
The provided graph illustrates data on the number of participants for various activities at one social centre in Melbourne, Australia from 2000 to 2020.
In 2000, there were about 62 participants at the film club which gradually decreased to about 59 in 2010. However, then number of members of the film club slowly increased to approximately 76 by 2020. Participants of the martial arts were almost 38 in 2000, which then gradually decreased to almost 31 in 2005. Then the participants increased to about 39 in 2010. By 2020, participants of the martial arts decreased from 39 to about 32. In 2000, attendees of the ameteur dramatics were about 28, then they decreased dramatically and became almost 4 by 2020.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main activities and give an overall comparison: the film club remained the largest, while amateur dramatics fell to the lowest level. However, several figures are inaccurate in ways that affect the account. The film club ends at about 66, not 76, and martial arts finishes near 36 rather than 32. Musical performances began at zero in 2000 as well as 2005, a detail your account omits. You also describe the table-tennis rise but do not report its especially strong growth after 2010 or that it became the second-largest activity by 2020. The overview is relevant, but the key trends and comparisons need more accurate, balanced coverage.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear basic structure: an introduction, a sequence of activity details, and a concluding overview. Time markers such as “In 2000,” “then,” and “By 2020” help readers follow changes, and the activities are generally presented in a sensible order. However, most details are packed into one long paragraph, so the information is not grouped as clearly as it could be. Repeated sentence openings such as “Participants…” also make the progression somewhat mechanical. The final overview repeats the film-club and amateur-dramatics comparison rather than drawing together the contrasting trends. Grouping related series and using clearer links between their patterns would improve flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a suitable range of task vocabulary, including “gradually decreased,” “increased,” “dramatically,” and “approximately,” and the meaning is generally clear. Some choices are repetitive or imprecise: “participants” and “about” recur frequently, while “members of the film club” and “attendees of the amateur dramatics” are less natural descriptions in this context. There are also spelling errors in “ameteur” and “activites,” and the phrase “most lowest value” is not idiomatic. More precise trend language and accurate spelling would make the report more fluent and controlled. For example, distinguish a steady rise from a sharp increase and use “the lowest figure” for the final comparison.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use both simple sentences and some more complex forms, including clauses with “which” and contrast introduced by “However.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. For example, “then number of members” needs a determiner, and “the film club have seen” has subject–verb disagreement; “the film club has had” would be more accurate. The construction “participants in musical performances were 0” is also awkwardly formed, and “While the participants…” is left as a dependent clause rather than a complete sentence. Check articles, agreement, and sentence completeness, while retaining the useful variety of sentence patterns already attempted.
