Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main overall contrast: film-club participation remains high, while amateur dramatics declines and table tennis and musical performances rise. You also include approximate starting and ending figures for several activities, and these are broadly consistent with the graph. However, the overview is unclear and incomplete: “the highest figure of film club” does not explain that film-club numbers stayed fairly stable, and the description of amateur dramatics as “third highest” is not clearly connected to the main trends. Some details are imprecise, such as saying martial arts reached 40 at the end, when it finishes at about 36. Make the overview a clear summary of the most important changes, then report accurate comparisons across the period.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing the data. Linking phrases such as “To begin with” and “On the other hand” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, progression is uneven: the overview is difficult to interpret, and the first detail paragraph combines film club and martial arts without a clear comparison. Several transitions are awkward or repetitive, including “after that” and “Furthermore,” while the final paragraph groups two rising activities without explaining their different patterns. Organise the details into clearer comparisons—for example, stable or fluctuating activities versus those that changed substantially—and use linking words only where they express a precise relationship.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “participants,” “decreased,” “increased,” and “reached,” so the reader can generally understand the trends being described. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “highest figure of film club,” “fell down,” and “it was stood at.” Repeated use of “figure” and “members” also makes the account less precise; “participant numbers” or “the total” would be more suitable in context. Spelling errors such as “verious,” “noteable,” “beggin,” and “approximetly” are noticeable and reduce clarity. Build a reliable set of trend verbs and collocations, and check spelling before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a contrast beginning “While” and a sentence describing the decline in amateur dramatics. However, complex constructions are often incomplete or faulty, and frequent errors make some relationships difficult to follow. For example, “While, martial arts figure was fluctuated” has an incorrect verb pattern, and “it was stood at again 35 members” is not grammatically controlled. There are also problems with articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries, as in “stood 5 member in 2020.” Practise forming accurate past-tense sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use shorter sentences when a longer structure becomes difficult to control.
