Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main overall patterns: the film club remains the largest activity, amateur dramatics declines sharply, and table tennis rises to become the second-largest by 2020. Most figures and comparisons are consistent with the chart, including film-club participation around 60–66 and amateur dramatics falling below 10. This covers the task well, with a clear overview and relevant supporting details. However, some points are imprecise or incomplete: musical performances began in 2010, not 2005, and the claim that the other three activities showed “many fluctuations” overlooks the steady rise in musical performances and table tennis’s strong late growth. More precise descriptions of these trends and a few additional comparisons would make the report more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two detail paragraphs. The information is generally grouped sensibly, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “after that,” and “Whereas” help show relationships between trends. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or unclear. Several sentences begin with “While” or “Whereas” without being properly connected to a main clause, and the overview repeats “While” in successive statements. The phrase “rest of three activities” also makes the grouping difficult to follow. Improve progression by organising the details into clearer comparisons—for example, stable or fluctuating series versus those with strong rises or falls—and use complete, well-linked sentences rather than relying on repeated contrast markers.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of chart vocabulary, including “participants,” “gradual growth,” “significant increase,” and “drastic decrease,” so the main trends are usually understandable. There are also attempts at more descriptive phrasing, such as “second highest.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive: “numbers of admissions” is not appropriate for participants, “activities happened” is unnatural, and “most ups and downs” is informal. Spelling errors such as “Amatuer,” “acitivities,” and “dramtic” are noticeable, while “peri” appears incomplete. Aim for precise, conventional reporting language, such as “the number of participants,” “fluctuated,” and “fell sharply,” and proofread spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses with “which” and time contrasts such as “By ten years … but after that.” The overall meaning is generally recoverable, but grammatical control is inconsistent, and several sentence patterns are faulty. For example, “numbers of people those who took a part” combines incompatible structures, while “there are five different types of things were available” lacks a workable clause structure. Tense and verb forms also need attention: “it was decreased” should be “it decreased,” and “it was declined” should be “it declined.” Some fragments beginning “While” or “Whereas” are not attached to complete clauses. Practise building accurate subject–verb sentences before adding subordinate clauses, and check articles and sentence boundaries.
