Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main contrasting trends: table tennis rises markedly, amateur dramatics declines, and film club remains the largest activity. Most figures are broadly consistent with the chart, including the approximate starting and ending values for these series. However, the overview is not fully accurate: film club peaks at about 66 in 2020, not 70, and martial arts fluctuates around the mid-30s rather than reaching 40. The statement that amateur dramatics and table tennis are the same in 2010 is also incorrect: they are approximately 20 and 20, so this comparison is accurate, but the description of musical performances as reaching 15 in 2020 understates the chart’s roughly 18. Covering all five activities more evenly and checking key figures would make the report more complete and precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and paragraphs describing trends, and it generally groups related activities together. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Furthermore” and “Moreover” help signal movement between sections. However, progression is sometimes mechanical, with repeated openings such as “if we look upon” and “the number of participant,” and several long sentences combine multiple years and changes without clear punctuation. The overview also lists the activities rather than sharply summarising the most important comparisons. Use clearer topic sentences and divide the detailed comparisons into shorter, logically ordered sentences; this would make the relationships between trends easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “participants,” “decline,” “increase,” “gradually” and “sharp decline,” so the reader can understand the main movements. There is some variety in describing change, but word choice and spelling are often inaccurate or repetitive. For example, “unusual shift” is not a natural description of a notable trend, “the graph line of number of participants” is awkward, and “Musical instruments” misnames the chart category, which is “musical performances.” Spellings such as “Amateure,” “amature” and “ameture” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, conventional reporting phrases and check activity names carefully; this will improve clarity and give your vocabulary more flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “while” and “as,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, errors in agreement, articles, verb forms and sentence construction are frequent enough to make some sentences difficult to read. Examples include “The chart illustrate,” “the chart explain,” and “the number of participant are,” where subject–verb agreement and plural forms are not controlled. Several clauses are joined without suitable punctuation, as in “there show the sudden shift in graph from 2010 to 2020 as the number rises.” Practise accurate basic sentence patterns first, then add subordinate clauses; also check agreement and punctuation when editing each sentence.
