Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response identifies several relevant features, including film club’s leading position, table tennis’s strong growth, and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, the account is only partial and contains a major data error: table tennis began at about 16 participants, not 26, and it rose to 20 by 2010 rather than declining from 26. The response also ends mid-sentence (“However, it then”), so the later rise to 54 and the trends in martial arts and musical performances are not reported. The overview is present but does not adequately summarise the full set of changes. The response is 17 words below the required minimum; develop the comparisons and complete the report to address the task more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation: an introduction is followed by an overview and then a paragraph with figures, and linking phrases such as “Overall,” “In contrast,” and “However” help signal relationships. Nevertheless, progression is limited because the final paragraph stops abruptly at “However, it then,” leaving the table-tennis comparison unfinished and the remaining activities unaddressed. Some connections are also awkward or repetitive, as in “While … but,” where two contrasting structures are combined. Grouping the main upward trends together and the declining or fluctuating trends together would create a clearer progression. Complete each comparison and use transitions only where they accurately express the relationship between the data.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “participants,” “fluctuated,” “dramatic growth,” and “decreased,” so the reader can recognise the intended subject. However, the range is limited and several choices or spelling errors reduce precision: “contestants” is not the natural term for people taking part in activities, “various activity” is incorrectly formed, and “lowest in fugure” is unclear. There are also repeated references to “number of participants” and “figure,” which make the description less concise. Use accurate activity-related terms and vary expressions for changes, such as “rose,” “fell,” and “remained stable.” Check spelling carefully, particularly in key overview statements.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and more complex sentences, but errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships difficult to follow. For example, “between 2000 to 2020” uses an incorrect preposition pattern, while “While … but” creates a faulty contrast structure. The sentence beginning “In 2000, film club stood…” joins two independent clauses with only a comma, and “increased slightly at 66” has an unclear grammatical relationship between the verb and figure. There are also errors in articles, plurals, and agreement, as in “various activity” and “the number … were lowest.” Practise writing complete, controlled sentences with accurate subject–verb agreement and punctuation, and avoid starting a new sentence with a lowercase letter.
