Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify several important patterns, including the film club’s consistently high participation, the sharp decline in amateur dramatics, and the strong rise in table tennis. However, the report contains major inaccuracies and confusing descriptions that limit how fully it represents the graph. For example, you say table tennis began in 2005, although it had participants in 2000, and you describe martial arts as “Table tennis” in the paragraph beginning “Table tennis on the other hand,” giving its figures to the wrong activity. The overview also omits the rise in musical performances and the substantial growth of table tennis. To improve, check each series against the graph and give a concise overview of the main contrasting trends before supporting it with accurate figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs containing details. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “In contrast,” and “Furthermore” help signal relationships between points. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the activity labels and figures become mixed. In particular, the paragraph starting “Table tennis on the other hand” first describes martial arts, then switches to table tennis without clearly marking the change. The earlier sentence “For film club members were 26” also makes the reference unclear. Organise the details by activity or by contrasting trends, and use clear topic sentences and references so readers can track which figures belong to each series.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a reasonable range of vocabulary for describing trends, including “plummeted substantially,” “slightly dropped,” “oscillated,” and “surged.” These choices show an attempt to vary language rather than repeat basic terms. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate, however: “ratio of volunteers” does not describe the graph’s participant numbers, and “reaching 2020” is not a natural way to describe a decline. “Had growing popularity each year” is also imprecise, since table tennis did not rise at every interval. Use standard chart language consistently, such as “number of participants,” “fell to,” and “increased markedly,” and check that each trend verb matches the data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mix of simple and longer sentences, and the overall meaning is often recoverable. However, errors in sentence construction, articles, and punctuation recur. For example, “film club had highest the highest number” contains a duplicated phrase and a missing article, while “For film club members were 26 in 2000 it observed a small increase” is not a complete, clearly structured sentence. Several clauses run together without appropriate punctuation, as in “was recorded 60 after that it kept rising.” Practise forming clear subject–verb sentences and joining clauses with full stops or suitable conjunctions. Also check article use and sentence boundaries during proofreading.
