Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the chart’s subject and include a general overview, noting that film club stays popular and amateur dramatics declines. However, the report only partially captures the main features because several key comparisons and figures are inaccurate. Film club is described as remaining around 60, although it changes from about 64 to 66; martial arts is said to rise to around 50, when it ends near 36. The account of musical performances is also contradictory: it says the activity began in 2005, but the chart shows it first appearing in 2010, and the final paragraph mistakenly describes its figures as starting above 35. Table tennis, one of the most striking trends, is barely reported. Select the major trends accurately and compare the series consistently.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has an introduction, an overview and separate body paragraphs, so there is some organisation. The overview also attempts to group the activities by popularity and trend. However, progression is weakened by unclear or contradictory references. For example, the final paragraph begins with amateur dramatics, then shifts to musical performances without a clear transition, and its description of the latter conflicts with the earlier paragraph. Linking phrases such as “On the other hand” do not always show a meaningful contrast, while repeated use of “however” makes connections feel mechanical. Group the activities by their trends, keep each series’ details together, and use clear references and transitions so the reader can follow the comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “participants,” “popular,” “decrease,” and “increasing,” and the activity names make the subject clear. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings reduce precision. “Remain constant” does not accurately describe film club, which fluctuates slightly, and “second popular” is an awkward collocation. There are also spelling errors such as “Table Tenis,” “dramathics,” “partipants,” and “incrases.” Use precise trend language and check spelling of key labels. For example, distinguish a slight fluctuation from stability, and use “rose sharply” or “declined steadily” only where the data supports those descriptions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including clauses joined with “however” and “but,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. Nevertheless, errors occur frequently in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence punctuation. Examples include “Film club remain,” “the figure remain,” and “Amateur dramatics have,” where singular subjects need matching verb forms. “There are 5 different activities out of which…” is also awkwardly constructed, and capital letters after commas or within the overview are inconsistent. Some long sentences combine several ideas without clear punctuation, making the relationships harder to follow. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and past-tense reporting, and divide complex descriptions into shorter, correctly punctuated sentences.
