Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall movements: table tennis rises markedly, amateur dramatics declines, and film club remains the most popular activity. Several figures are also reported accurately, including table tennis at 16 in 2000 and around 20 in 2005, and amateur dramatics falling to about 5–6 by 2020. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: amateur dramatics reached about 28, not 30, in 2005, and musical performances began at zero in both 2000 and 2005, rather than only being described from 2005. The overview also says musical performances grew steadily, but does not clearly identify their rise from 2010 onward or table tennis overtaking martial arts. Develop these comparisons more precisely and avoid unsupported generalisations such as “all other” activities remaining stable.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to descriptions of individual activities. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression is weakened by repeated or awkward linking phrases, including “As a result” in places where no result is being explained, and the final paragraph repeats the table-tennis rise already covered. The comparison beginning “If we compare both positive trend” is left incomplete, so it does not connect the two trends clearly. Grouping the stable activities together, then contrasting the rising and falling series, would create a more logical progression. Use linking words only when their relationship is clear, and ensure each paragraph develops a distinct point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary such as “participants,” “steady growth,” “sharp rise,” and “consistent fall,” which helps communicate the main trends. There is also some attempt to vary descriptions of change. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, for example “Table tannis,” “Amature,” “amongst,” and “comapre.” Some expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “numbers start climbing” and “good number,” while “Other than these are remain stable” does not convey the intended meaning clearly. Aim for accurate activity names and more precise trend language, such as “increased substantially” or “fluctuated around the mid-30s.” Check spelling carefully and choose collocations that fit numerical descriptions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple statements and longer clauses, including sentences with “which,” “but,” and “although.” The meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in sentence structure and grammatical control are evident. For example, “Line graph illustrate” lacks an article and subject–verb agreement, while “Other than these are remain stable” combines incompatible verb forms. In “Amateur dramatics … which to 30 participants,” the clause is incomplete, and “Film club … but remain consistent” has an unclear subject and verb form. Capitalisation and punctuation also need attention, particularly the lower-case “overall” after the opening sentence and the comma splice in the overview. Practise complete clauses, consistent past-tense reporting, and accurate agreement before adding more complex sentence patterns.
