Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover all five activities and identify the main contrasts: the film club remains the largest, musical performances begin at zero, and table tennis rises substantially while amateur dramatics declines. Most figures are broadly consistent with the graph, including the approximate starting and ending levels for martial arts and the sharp fall in amateur dramatics. However, the overview is unclear: “the highest proportion” does not specify that film-club participation is highest, and calling musical performances the lowest throughout overlooks that they overtake amateur dramatics by 2015. Some trends are also underdeveloped, particularly the fluctuations in martial arts and the film club’s slight dip followed by recovery. State the key overall changes more precisely and support them with selected comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic overall structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about the activities. This makes the information reasonably easy to follow, and phrases such as “while” and “and then” help connect comparisons and changes. However, the progression is weakened by placing several series and figures in one long paragraph, especially the sentence beginning “from 2000 to 2020.” The overview also does not clearly establish the main trends, and some references are difficult to follow, such as “the number of participants” without naming the activity. Use separate, logically grouped detail paragraphs—for example, stable or fluctuating activities and those with major rises or falls—and use clear activity names in each comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant trend vocabulary, including “increased significantly,” “decreased,” and “around,” so the reader can understand the broad movements. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which makes parts of the report awkward. For example, “attented the highest proportion” is not a natural way to describe participant numbers, and “there was no participants” uses an unsuitable expression. Spelling errors such as “performences” and inconsistent capitalisation of “Melbourne” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise chart language and vary verbs appropriately: describe figures as “stood at,” “remained stable,” “rose,” or “fell,” rather than repeating “number of participants.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including comparisons joined with “while” and sequences using “and then.” The main trends are generally understandable, but errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction occur across the response. For instance, “the number of participants are” should use a singular verb, while “its then increased” needs “it then increased” and a consistent past-tense form. The sentence beginning “from 2000 to 2020” also combines several ideas without clear grammatical control. Practise building shorter, accurate sentences around one activity at a time, and check subject–verb agreement and past-tense consistency before adding clauses.
