Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important patterns, especially the film club’s consistently high figures, table tennis’s sharp rise, and amateur dramatics’ decline. However, some key details are inaccurate: amateur dramatics began at about 26 participants, not 35, and musical performances first recorded participants in 2010, not 2005. The overview also says martial arts and amateur dramatics were “growing slowly,” although amateur dramatics fell substantially and martial arts fluctuated around a fairly stable level. The response covers the activities, but the overview and some comparisons are unclear or underdeveloped. To strengthen it, give a precise overview of the contrasting trends and check each reported starting point and direction against the graph.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph reporting figures. This gives the reader a basic route through the information, and sequencing phrases such as “To begin with” and “In addition” help signal progression. However, the organisation is not always logical: the overview groups martial arts with amateur dramatics as rising, then the body describes martial arts as stable and amateur dramatics as declining. “In the conclusion” is also used to introduce another data point rather than to summarise the main features. Some linking phrases feel mechanical, and references such as “the activity” are repeated. Grouping the series by trend and using clearer comparisons would make the progression more coherent.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “decreased,” “increased rapidly,” “participants,” and “period,” so the reader can generally understand the trends you intend to describe. However, the range is limited and several word combinations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “information of participants,” “followed the highest participants,” and “started by 15 participants.” Repetition of “activity” and “participants” also reduces flexibility. Some choices affect accuracy: “growing slowly” does not describe the decline in amateur dramatics, while “peoples” is not the appropriate plural for a count of participants. Aim for precise trend language and natural collocations, for example, “the number of participants,” “remained relatively stable,” and “fell steadily.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more developed sentences, including a contrast with “While” and a sequence using “then,” but control is uneven. Errors in verb forms and agreement appear in phrases such as “the martial arts participant were” and “the activity of amateur dramatics were began.” The opening overview fragment, “While, the activity…,” is not a complete sentence, and the final sentence combines “were began” with an unclear sequence of tenses. Articles and sentence construction are also awkward in “started with the zero participants.” These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas harder to follow. Practise forming complete sentences with consistent past-tense verbs, and check subject–verb agreement and article use when revising.
