Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the chart’s subject and make a relevant attempt at an overview by noting that the film club was the most popular activity. However, the account is only partial and includes important inaccuracies: table tennis was not the least popular activity in 2000 (amateur dramatics was higher, while musical performances had no participants), and musical performances did not begin rising until 2010. The comparison between table tennis and amateur dramatics in 2010 is broadly accurate, as is the sharp decline in amateur dramatics by 2020. Several key trends are omitted, especially table tennis’s strong rise and martial arts’ relative stability. The response also stops mid-sentence and is four words below the required minimum. Include a complete conclusion and select the main trends accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation: you begin with an introduction, provide an overview, and then move through selected years in chronological order. This gives the reader a basic framework. However, progression is uneven because the body jumps between individual years without consistently comparing the five activities or grouping related trends. Linking phrases such as “Furthermore” and “Interestingly” are used, but they do not always clarify the relationship between the information. The final phrase, “in conclusion, the”, is unfinished, so the response has no completed ending and the paragraphing does not fully support the report’s structure. Organise the details into paragraphs that compare rising, falling, and stable activities, and finish with a complete summary.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is sufficient to identify the activities and describe basic movement, using phrases such as “the highest number,” “going upward,” and “the least.” However, the range is limited and some expressions are inaccurate or awkward, including “the most dominant part of graph,” “participation was accelerating toward,” and “became on the same point.” Repetition of “participation” and “people” also makes the report less precise. There are spelling errors in “melbourne,” “partcipation,” and “flim,” and “percent” is inappropriate because the chart reports participant numbers, not percentages. Use concise chart language such as “participants,” “rose,” “fell,” and “remained stable,” and check spelling and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the reader can generally understand the intended comparisons. However, grammatical errors are frequent, and attempts at more complex sentences are often faulty. Examples include “the graph contain,” “musical performances was,” and “participation … become,” where subject–verb agreement or verb form is incorrect. The opening also runs sentences together after “2020.the,” and several phrases lack necessary articles or have awkward sentence construction, such as “the highest number of people participation.” Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, particularly at sentence beginnings and around commas. Practise accurate present and past forms, agreement, and sentence boundaries; then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
