Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main extremes correctly: the film club has the most participants by 2020, while amateur dramatics falls to the lowest level. You also note table tennis’s strong rise and the later appearance of musical performances. However, the account is only partial and some details are inaccurate: musical performances began in 2010, not 2005, and martial arts fluctuated rather than showing a continuous rise and fall as a clear overall trend. The opening comparison of the three activities as being at “equal distance” is unclear, and key changes are not supported with accurate figures. The response is 146 words, four words below the required minimum; 18 words copied from the prompt are excluded from the count. Develop the overview and select a few precise comparisons to complete the task more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response has an opening, a paragraph describing broad trends, and a concluding overview, so there is some attempt to organise the information. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the second paragraph combines several comparisons and trends in a long, loosely connected sequence. Phrases such as “On the other hand” and “At the end of 2020” do not always show a clear relationship between the points that follow, and the final paragraph repeats the claim that film club was highest and amateur dramatics lowest without adding a new summary. Grouping the activities by trend—for example, stable or fluctuating series versus those that rose or fell—would make the comparisons easier to follow and reduce repetition.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a line graph, including “dramatic increase,” “sudden decline,” and “fluctuations,” and the activity names are generally clear. However, the range is limited and several choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, which sometimes makes the meaning unclear. For example, “explains by providing information of number” is not a natural way to introduce the graph, while “equal distance” does not clearly describe the starting figures. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “intially,” “flactuations,” and “continous.” Aim for precise trend language and check spelling carefully; use terms such as “participants,” “rose,” “fell,” and “remained relatively stable” in accurate combinations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and more extended sentence forms, but complex sentences are often faulty, and frequent errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to understand. For instance, “The other three Table tennis, Amateur dramatics and Martial arts was seen” has an incomplete structure and incorrect subject–verb agreement; “in Martial arts continous rise and fall was seen” also lacks a clear grammatical subject and article. The opening sentence, “The graph below explains by providing information of number,” is similarly difficult to parse. There are also problems with punctuation, including the extra space before “sudden decline” and the run-on sequence of trends in the second paragraph. Practise building clear sentences with a subject and verb, and use accurate agreement and articles.
