Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main contrast that film club remained the most popular and table tennis grew substantially, and you include an overview as well as several figures. However, coverage is partial: table tennis, despite being a key trend, is not described in the detail section, and the account of musical performances misstates the timing and endpoint. They began in 2010, not 2005, and reached about 18 participants, not 20. The claim that amateur dramatics started at 25 and fell to 7 is broadly close, but its initial rise and subsequent decline could be reported more clearly. Martial arts is repeated rather than compared with the other activities. Select the major trends accurately and support the overview with the most relevant comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs, so there is some organisation and the reader can identify the broad subject. However, progression is weakened by repetition and unclear grouping. Martial arts is discussed in both detail paragraphs, while table tennis—the activity with the strongest rise—is omitted. Linking phrases such as “In stark contrast” do not introduce a clear contrast because the following sentence repeats the martial-arts trend. Some references are also difficult to follow, including “it started” after the statement about musical performances. Organise the details by contrasting rising, falling and relatively stable activities, and use each paragraph to add new information rather than repeat it.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-appropriate vocabulary, including “fluctuated,” “steadily,” “sharp decline” and “participants,” and these help convey changes over time. The range is nevertheless limited and several noticeable spelling, word-form and collocation errors reduce precision: “attandence,” “flactuated,” “continous,” and “grew steadily onward” are examples. Some phrases are also awkward or repetitive, such as “sudden fluctuations was seen” and “ups and downs were seen.” Aim for accurate, natural trend language and vary it selectively. For example, describe a line as “remained relatively stable,” “rose sharply,” or “declined steadily,” rather than repeatedly referring to fluctuations or changes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including the overview beginning “Overall, it is clear that…” and clauses describing changes over time. However, errors are frequent, and some sentence structures are faulty enough to make relationships unclear. Examples include “at social centre” (missing an article), “film club … starting … and ended” (inconsistent verb forms), and “In martial arts sudden fluctuations was seen” (subject–verb agreement and sentence construction). The sentence about amateur dramatics also has an unclear structure: “a sharp decline were seen by showing downward trend.” Practise building accurate subject–verb sentences and maintaining consistent past-tense forms. Check articles, agreement and punctuation when editing.
