Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the five activities and give an overview that film club remained the most popular, while amateur dramatics declined. However, several key figures are substantially inaccurate: martial arts is reported at about 47 and 49 participants, whereas the graph shows roughly 36 at both endpoints. You also describe musical performances as having the lowest participation throughout, although they rise from zero to around 18 and finish above amateur dramatics. The response omits this upward trend and gives only limited coverage of the series’ changes. To make the summary more complete and accurate, select the main contrasts and report the approximate values faithfully, especially the sharp rise in table tennis and the fall in amateur dramatics.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs. This helps the reader identify the topic and some major trends. However, progression is uneven because the overview says participation fluctuated substantially without distinguishing the different patterns, and the details move between activities without a clear grouping. Linking words such as “Overall” and “However” are used, but the latter does not always express a clear contrast, and the final sentence is abrupt. Organise the details by trend—for example, stable or fluctuating activities versus those that rose or fell—and use references and transitions that make each comparison explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “remained steady,” “rose dramatically” and “surged,” which helps describe changes. However, the range is limited and several spelling errors make the writing less clear, including “co-ciriculluar,” “daramatics,” “tannis” and “Muscial.” Some expressions are also imprecise or unnatural: “number of people participating kept on fluctuating” is repetitive, while “remained considerably plateaued” is not a natural collocation. Use accurate activity names and a more controlled set of trend terms, such as “stayed broadly stable,” “declined steadily” and “increased sharply.” Check spelling carefully, particularly for labels copied from the graph.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast introduced by “However” and clauses describing changes over time. Meaning is generally recoverable, but errors recur in sentence construction and agreement. For example, “the number of participants fluctuate” needs a singular verb, and “the number of people participating in martial arts were” should also take a singular verb. The phrase “reached to almost 67” uses an unnecessary preposition, and “participant for daramatics was” has an unclear singular construction. Punctuation is inconsistent, particularly where sentences run directly into the next one. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and use shorter, clearly punctuated sentences when reporting figures.
