Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the five activities and give a broad overview that film club remained the most popular while amateur dramatics declined. However, several key details are misreported, which limits how fully the graph is summarised. Table tennis rose substantially, from about 16 to 54 participants, but you say it “were declined by 30 to 5”; you also reverse its comparison with amateur dramatics, which fell from about 26 to 6. The claim that amateur dramatics fluctuated from 20 to 55 is also inaccurate. Musical performances increased from zero to around 18, rather than 15. To make the report more accurate, select the main trends and check each activity’s direction and approximate start and end values before comparing them.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an introduction, an overview and a further paragraph, so there is some organisation, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Furthermore” and “similarly” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, the progression is not consistently clear: the final paragraph repeats that film club was highest, then moves between several activities without a clear grouping or sequence. Some comparisons are difficult to follow because the relationships between the figures are not stated accurately or clearly. Organise the details into logical groups—for example, the two broadly stable activities, then the rising and falling series—and use each paragraph to develop one comparison. Clearer sentence boundaries and more precise referencing would also help the reader follow the report.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-related vocabulary, including “participants,” “fluctuates,” “minor variation” and “decline,” and you attempt to describe change rather than simply list figures. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning hard to interpret. For example, “individulas of candidates for distintc tasks” is not a natural way to describe the graph, and “the table tennis were declined” uses an unsuitable expression for a rising trend. There are also frequent spelling errors, including “matrtial,” “muscial” and “participnats.” Use standard trend language such as “the number of participants,” “rose steadily” and “fell sharply,” and proofread spellings carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt longer sentences with clauses and linking words, but the structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some statements difficult to understand. For instance, “there are five types of participants film club…” lacks a clear grammatical connection between the list and the sentence, while “the martial arts having the same record” is not a complete clause. Subject–verb agreement is also inconsistent in “the table tennis were declined,” and articles and prepositions are often missing or awkward, as in “at highest level” and “in Melbourne, Australia” being introduced with an extra “in.” Aim first for accurate simple sentences, then combine them using controlled clauses. Check that each sentence has a clear subject and verb and that singular and plural forms agree.
