Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify all five activities and report several important patterns, including the rise in table tennis, the decline in amateur dramatics, and the relatively high film-club figures. However, the overview mostly repeats that the graph shows participation in different activities rather than summarising the main contrasts. Some details are also unclear or inaccurate: musical performances rise gradually to about 18, not rapidly to almost 20, and table tennis was already around 20 in 2005 and remained there in 2010. The film-club trend is described only as nearly unchanged, without noting its slight dip followed by a rise. To strengthen the response, give a concise overview of the leading, rising and declining activities, then report the key figures accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has some organisation: it begins with an introduction and overview, then groups musical performances, table tennis and amateur dramatics before discussing martial arts and the film club. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, the overview does not establish a clear progression, and the main body is largely one long paragraph containing several trends. Linking words such as “then,” “afterward” and “subsequently” are repeated, sometimes making the sequence feel mechanical; the final film-club point also ends abruptly. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and grouped comparisons, and connect changes with clearer contrasts, such as “by comparison” or “while,” so relationships between activities are easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “increase,” “downfall,” “consistent” and “up and downs,” and the activity names are generally clear. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for this chart. Participants in musical performances are called “instrumentalists,” “singers” and “vocalists,” although the graph gives no such detail; “contestants” and “competitors” are also unsuitable for table-tennis participants. “Faces huge downfall” is an awkward collocation, and “up and downs” is imprecise. Prefer neutral chart language such as “participants,” “rose,” “remained stable” and “declined sharply.” This would make the descriptions more precise and avoid unsupported assumptions about who took part.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt longer sentences to describe changes over time, but complex sentences are often difficult to follow because clauses are joined without reliable punctuation or grammatical control. For example, “then the number of singers start increasing rapidly then in 2020…” contains a tense/agreement problem and an unclear sequence, while “The number of martial artists in 2000 were 35 then decreases” shifts between past and present and has subject–verb disagreement. There are also missing articles and awkward sentence boundaries, as in “in 2005 the number performers decreases slightly.” Use the past tense consistently for the completed period, check singular subjects such as “the number,” and divide long sequences into shorter, correctly punctuated sentences.
