Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify all five activities and report several important patterns, including the film club’s consistently high participation, the decline in amateur dramatics, and the rise in table tennis. However, some figures are inaccurate: amateur dramatics began at about 26, not 25 (a minor difference), while musical performances had zero participants in both 2000 and 2005, not one in 2005. The description of table tennis as rising “from 2005 to 2020” misses its increase from about 16 in 2000 and its especially sharp growth after 2010. The overview mostly repeats that there are five activities rather than clearly summarising the main contrasts. Select the strongest overall trends and support them with accurate comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic structure, moving from an introduction and overview to descriptions of the activities, and the reader can generally follow the information. However, the overview repeats the introduction instead of establishing a clear progression of key features. The body also groups several series into long sentences, making comparisons harder to distinguish; for example, the sentence beginning “In 2000 overall 64 people” moves from film club to martial arts and amateur dramatics. Linking phrases such as “after that” and “then” are repetitive, and “between 2010 to 2020” does not clearly express the time span. Organise the body into clearer comparisons and use more precise transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “participants,” “fluctuates,” “decline,” and “increases,” so the main trends are usually understandable. However, the range is limited and some choices are inaccurate or repetitive. “Contestants” is not the natural term for people attending table tennis at a social centre; “participants” is more suitable. “The graph demonstrates about” is an awkward collocation, and “increases in a huge amount” is imprecise. Capitalisation is also inconsistent in “social Centre” and activity names. Aim for concise, accurate trend language and vary verbs such as “rose,” “fell,” and “remained stable” where appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Most sentences communicate a basic trend, but the response relies heavily on simple sentence patterns and contains frequent errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and prepositions. For example, “between 2000 to 2020” should be “between 2000 and 2020,” and “No one take part” needs past-tense agreement (“No one took part”). The phrase “64 people take part” also needs a past-tense form, while “the number … increases” should be “increased” when describing the completed period. Some sentences join several ideas without clear punctuation, which affects readability. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build controlled complex sentences using “while” or “whereas.”
