Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main overall pattern that the film club remained the most popular activity, and you describe the strong rise in table tennis and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, the overview is incomplete: musical performances began at zero in 2000, not merely as the least popular activity, and by 2020 table tennis had risen to second place. Some details are inaccurate or missing. For example, table tennis was about 16 in 2000 and 20 in both 2005 and 2010, while musical performances first appeared in 2010 at about 12. The martial-arts account stops at 2010 and incorrectly says the figure rose to 40; it fluctuated around the mid-30s throughout. Select the key changes and compare the series across the full period more accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable sequence: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing several activities. This gives the reader a basic framework, and phrases such as “in addition” and “as years passed” attempt to connect information. However, progression is uneven because the activities are discussed one by one without a clear grouping or consistent comparison, and the final martial-arts description is left incomplete. Several sentence fragments, including “The Amateur dramatics activity which showed decreasing trend,” interrupt the flow. Linking phrases are sometimes repetitive or awkward, and the overview does not guide the later details effectively. Organise the body into clearer comparisons—for example, rising activities versus declining or fluctuating ones—and use complete sentences with references that make each trend easy to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “increasing trend,” “decreasing trend,” “participants,” and “fluctuates,” so the main subject is generally clear. There is also some attempt to vary wording, such as “rose” and “increment.” However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing a graph: “competitors” and “students” do not fit the chart, while “incremented” and “suddenly rose in participants” are awkward. Spelling errors such as “throught,” “Muscial,” and “ther” are noticeable, and “units are calibrated in numbers” is not a natural description of the vertical axis. Use precise terms such as “participants,” “stood at,” “increased,” and “fluctuated,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts some longer structures, including clauses beginning with “While” and “as years passed,” but control is inconsistent. Many sentences contain errors in sentence formation, agreement, articles, or tense. For example, “the maximum number of participants were” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “the Table tennis activity which shown an increasing trend” is not a complete, correctly formed sentence. Several sentences begin with lowercase letters, and punctuation is often missing or misplaced, as in “there were 35 , and in 2020.” The repeated use of fragments and faulty complex clauses can make relationships between figures unclear. Practise writing complete subject–verb sentences, use past-tense forms consistently, and check agreement and punctuation before submitting.
