Student answer (Band 5.5)
The graph illustrates the number of people participated in various activities carried out at a particular social center in an Australian city, Melbourne, from 2000 to 2020.
Overall, the highest number of participants were recoreded for the film club in the given period, while the activities designed for Amateur Dramatics observed a downfall in past 2 decades.
Talking about the Flim club, a significant number of people have taken part to perform (around 65 percent) in 2000, along with bit of highs and lows in the following years. Beside that, other activities including the table tennis (around 55 percent) and musical performaces ( about15 percent) also experienced a hype in their popularity among the performers over the period of time.
On the other hand, Amateure dramatics observed less number of people interested in the activity that is around 35 % in 200 and became low till around 4 percent, in 2020. Whereas, Martial arts has seen constant number in participants that is around 35 percent in 2000,and remain same till 2020.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main contrast between the consistently high film-club figures and the decline in amateur dramatics, and you note the strong rise in table tennis and the later growth of musical performances. However, several details are inaccurate or unclear: amateur dramatics began at about 26, not 35, and martial arts fluctuated between roughly 32 and 38 rather than remaining constant. The film-club figure was about 64 in 2000, and the chart reports participants, not percentages. Your overview is relevant, but it does not clearly summarise the major changes across all activities. To strengthen the report, select accurate starting and ending figures and describe the key trends more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs grouping activities. This gives the reader a basic route through the information, and phrases such as “Overall” and “On the other hand” signal relationships between points. However, the grouping is not always logical: the third paragraph combines film club, table tennis and musical performances, while the final paragraph discusses the other two without a clear comparison. Some linking phrases, including “Beside that” and “Whereas,” feel mechanical or do not connect the ideas precisely. Organise the details by clear trends—for example, stable or fluctuating activities versus those that rose or fell—and use transitions that accurately express those relationships.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “downfall,” “hype,” “popularity,” and “constant,” and the reader can generally understand which activities you mean. However, several choices are informal or imprecise for an academic report: “hype” and “people interested” do not describe participant numbers as clearly as “increase” and “participation.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “Flim,” “performaces,” “Amateure,” and “recoreded,” alongside awkward phrases like “taken part to perform.” These errors reduce precision, even though the main message remains understandable. Aim for accurate trend vocabulary and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of sentence forms, including a complex contrast beginning “On the other hand,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction occur in several places. For example, “the number of people participated” needs a relative clause or a different structure, while “the highest number … were recorded” has a subject–verb agreement problem. In “Martial arts has seen … and remain same,” the verb forms do not agree and the second clause is incomplete. Punctuation and spacing around commas are also inconsistent. Practise building accurate comparisons with a clear subject and verb, then check agreement and tense throughout.
