Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important trends, including the sharp rise in table tennis, the decline in amateur dramatics, and growth in musical performances. Most reported figures are close to the chart, but the film club is overstated at 70 in 2020 (about 66), and the 2020 figures for martial arts and amateur dramatics are slightly high. The overview is also incomplete: it does not mention that film club remained the most popular activity, or that table tennis became the second-largest by 2020. Musical performances began at zero in both 2000 and 2005, but only 2005 is reported. The response is three words below the 150-word minimum. Add a fuller overview and accurate comparisons to develop the task more completely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs grouping the activities. This helps the reader follow the main categories, and transitions such as “In contrast” and “Furthermore” signal relationships between trends. However, progression within the body paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, with repeated “In addition” and “while” constructions, and the overview is too brief to guide the comparisons that follow. Some links are unclear, as in “Afterthat it slightly declined accounted for 60,” where the sequence and relationship between the verbs are difficult to follow. Use clearer time-based sequencing and connect each figure directly to its trend; a more informative overview would also make the organisation feel more purposeful.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “declined,” “increased,” “rose sharply,” and “participants,” so the main trends are generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “shows up 35 Participants,” “represented 70 Participants,” and “declined steadily to 5 Participants.” Spelling errors—including “activaties,” “follwed,” and “Participanst”—also make the writing less controlled. Capitalisation of common nouns such as “Number,” “Participants,” and “Table Tennis” is inconsistent. Aim for precise, natural reporting verbs and consistent spelling and case; this will make the descriptions clearer and more appropriate to an academic summary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including contrast clauses beginning “While” and “In contrast,” and the overall meaning can usually be understood. However, sentence control is inconsistent, and several structures are incomplete or faulty. “While declined in Amateur dramatics” is a fragment, while “Afterthat it slightly declined accounted for 60” combines verbs without a clear grammatical link. There are also errors in articles, agreement, and tense, for example “at centre” and “it start rising.” Punctuation and spacing are uneven, including the extra spaces before “steadily.” Practise complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check verb forms and articles when describing changes over time.
