Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The response selects the main patterns accurately and gives a clear overview: the film club stays the most popular, table tennis grows markedly, and amateur dramatics declines. The reported figures are generally consistent with the chart, including the film club’s slight dip and recovery, martial arts’ fluctuations, and musical performances’ rise from zero. The comparison that table tennis becomes the second most popular activity by 2020 is also well supported. This is a well-focused summary with relevant detail across all five activities. To strengthen it further, report the final musical-performance figure more precisely (about 18, rather than 16) and make the overview’s comparisons slightly more exact; for example, table tennis overtakes martial arts by 2015.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response is organised into a clear introduction, an overview, and two detail paragraphs. Its progression is easy to follow: the first detail paragraph covers the film club and martial arts, while the second groups the remaining activities. Linking expressions such as “In contrast,” “whereas,” “After that,” and “By contrast” help signal comparisons and changes over time. The main limitation is that some transitions and sentence openings feel repetitive or abrupt, particularly the repeated use of “then” and “finally.” Capitalisation after full stops is also inconsistent, which interrupts the otherwise clear presentation. For a more polished progression, vary the ways you connect time points and comparisons, and ensure each paragraph begins and ends with consistent sentence-level formatting.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses a suitable range of trend and comparison vocabulary, including “remained relatively stable,” “fluctuated moderately,” “remarkable increase,” and “declined further.” These choices communicate the main patterns clearly. However, frequent spelling errors and some inaccurate word forms reduce precision and make the writing look less controlled: examples include “kine graph,” “spcial,” “expirienceed,” “participaion,” and “approximtely.” Some phrasing is also awkward, such as “increased sharply … and over with 50 participants.” Use standard chart language and proofread carefully so that spelling and collocation do not distract from the accurate information. A more precise vocabulary range is already emerging, but it needs more reliable execution.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response attempts a mix of simple and more complex structures, including contrast clauses with “while” and “whereas,” and time-sequence sentences using “After that.” Most of the intended meaning remains understandable. However, errors in sentence boundaries, tense consistency, articles, and punctuation are frequent enough to limit accuracy. For example, “this figure decreased … and then it recovers” shifts tense within a past-time description, while “but number rose” is missing an article. Several sentences begin with lowercase letters after full stops, and the final sentence lacks closing punctuation. Practise maintaining the past tense throughout and checking articles and sentence boundaries. More accurate control of these basic patterns would make the varied sentence forms more effective.
