Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main categories and note that film club was highest and musical performances lowest at the start, which gives the response a relevant overview. However, the overview is too general: “mixed results” does not clearly summarise the major changes, such as table tennis rising sharply to become the second-largest activity, while amateur dramatics declined substantially. Several figures are also misreported: table tennis began at about 16, not 8, and was around 20 in 2010, not 29; musical performances reached about 16 in 2015, not 8. Film club was about 64 in 2015 and 66 in 2020, rather than 66 and 68. Select the most important trends and check each reported value against the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to descriptions of the five activities. This helps the reader identify which series is being discussed. However, the body paragraphs are not grouped around comparisons or major trends, and the repeated openings—“Talking about,” “Pouring some light on,” and “Let’s have a look”—make the progression feel mechanical. Some linking phrases are awkward or unclear, including “For some more understanding headingtowards martial arts” and “In addition” before a broad, imprecise summary. Organise related series together, for example, contrasting the steady film-club figures with the sharp rise in table tennis, and use concise transitions that clarify the relationship between trends.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of words intended to describe data, including “fluctuations,” “increment,” “decrement,” “approximately,” and “nearly.” This shows an effort to use task-related vocabulary. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for an IELTS graph summary: “elucidates information,” “values were quite interesting,” and “Pouring some light on” sound unsuitable or overly conversational. There are also spelling errors in key labels, such as “Mulbourne,” “appared,” “dramalics,” and “tannis,” which can make the data harder to follow. Prefer precise, conventional trend language and spell activity names carefully; for example, describe figures as rising, falling, remaining stable, or fluctuating.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple statements and longer constructions, and the opening sentence communicates the chart’s subject and time period. However, control is uneven, particularly in the sentence fragments and incomplete patterns used to introduce series. For example, “For some more understanding headingtowards martial arts, and its had values” is not a complete, well-formed sentence, while “Pouring some light on amateur dramalics, and its share was…” joins an introductory phrase to the main clause incorrectly. The final phrase, “0 for 2005 and no more 2000,” is also grammatically unclear. Use complete subject–verb sentences, maintain consistent past-tense reporting, and check articles and clause connections. These revisions would make the data easier to understand.
