Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify two important overall movements: table-tennis participation rises markedly, while amateur dramatics declines. You also mention the film club, martial arts and musical performances, so the response is relevant to the chart. However, the summary is only partial: it gives little clear comparison of the five activities and does not establish the film club as the consistently most popular activity. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: musical performances began at zero and first had participants in 2010, not 2005; table tennis rose from 20 in 2010 to 54 in 2020, rather than increasing by 54; and amateur dramatics ended at about 6, not 5. Select the main contrasts and report the figures and time periods precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic sequence, moving from an introduction to broad trends and then to examples, and words such as “However” and “In the end” signal relationships between ideas. Nevertheless, the progression is difficult to follow because the overview and supporting details are not clearly separated, and several sentences combine unrelated points. For example, the sentence beginning “The other two activities” shifts between film club and martial arts without clearly stating their trends, while “It shows that the difference…” does not introduce a specific comparison. Use a clear overview paragraph followed by two organised detail paragraphs, grouping similar trends together. Make references explicit so readers can readily identify which activity each statement describes.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “participants,” “categories,” “increased” and “fall,” and the reader can generally identify the activities being discussed. However, the range is limited and several repeated or unnatural expressions make the report less precise, such as “rise up to increase,” “falls down,” “involved people” and “start to interest.” Some word choices also obscure the intended meaning, as in “Attendees such as represents less interest.” Aim for standard data-reporting collocations and vary the verbs used to describe change. For instance, describe numbers as rising, declining, remaining stable or fluctuating, and use “participation” or “participant numbers” rather than “involved people.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a contrast introduced by “However” and a time clause beginning “between years of 2000 to 2020.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure, verb forms and agreement frequently make the meaning harder to follow. Examples include “The line graph illustrates the provide information,” “table tennis are rise,” and “table tennis show more numbers.” Articles and prepositions are also often missing or incorrectly used, as in “in activity of table tennis” and “at end point.” Practise building accurate subject–verb–object sentences first, then add time phrases and contrasts. Check that each subject agrees with its verb and that past-tense descriptions remain consistent.
